This PCP chugging hack director is making the next Resident Evil movie and says he wants to make it "accurate to the original games". Thoughts?

I unironically enjoy the Paul WS Anderson films despite their deviation from the source material and the overuse of Jovovich as a quasi mary sue protagonist.

making it an original story is the right move. Trying to make Jill or Chris into characters that can carry a 90 minute movie would not work.
Anonymous No.717884682
>>717884497
Trying to adapt a video game into a 90 minute movie is just dumb. Silent Hill made this work for the first half and then tried to shove 7 hours of lore into the second half of the film which is where it went to shit. I think Fallout worked because it was an "original" story and took place over like 8 hours of screentime (I forgot how many episodes there were).

He's just going to be making something entirely similar to RE9 and thus redundant. Hollywood can't into 'Regular person somehow comes out on top against hordes of monsters' without giving them some stupid Mary Sue abilities to make it 'actiony' to lure in the normies and so it will sell in China.

I've read the script and his film is less like the games than any Paul W.S. Anderson movie. Even stuff like Extinction, set in a post-apocalyptic hellscape, still felt thematically connected to the RE series by having Umbrella sitting in their underground bunker being complete retards and trying to rule the world. This reboot script feels like they took a Shay Hatten horror movie script and then retrofitted it with Resident Evil words.

It's nothing like the previous films.
It's nothing like the games.
It could be very, very good. But some people will be forced to apologize to Anderson over the whole "spirit of the source material" thing.

>If I remember right, it's going to be an original story set between RE 1 and 2 when the outbreak is starting.
No, it's set in the modern day, nothing from the games happened, and ending is basically pic related. Some people keep insisting that it's like Fallout or Monster Hunter where the movie and games are part of some shared canon. This isn't like that. It's exactly like the PWSA movies, and it's shocking the number of people online refusing to accept that because they think the director of Weapons is more prestigious than the director of Event Horizon.

Afraid I can't help there. It's floating around, though. A friend shared a copy with me, but I agreed not to share it. I can talk about it, though. I've seen some other people on Reddit who have copies, and some are accusing Cregger of reskinning an unrelated horror movie under the RE brand, which is a touch unfair, but I think people are just disgruntled because a lot of early stuff talked about how "faithful" it was going to be, and it turns out to Cregger that means something very different.

He's planning on making original characters just in the RE setting. Sounds like a perfectly reasonable compromise to me since the first RE movie is the only good one.

Weapons is basically just Cregger throwing shit at a wall, and the film fails to come together in a satisfying way because he basically made it all up as he went along instead of having a plan.

In other words, he's the perfect director for a Resident Evil film.

Resident Evil: Retribution. Paul kinda lost control during production and the studio chopped the shit out of it and made him add a bunch of ADR and then refused to release his director's cut even though they kinda promised him they would but it's absolutely fire when it comes together.

It's not based on any RE game. It's a completely original story (likely based on an unrelated screenplay) where a courier gets stranded outside the city and has to find his way to a remote hospital on foot, and there's tentacle monsters.

I'm fine with it. He isn't going to use any existing characters so whatever story he tells will probably be about Umbrella or new characters dealing with the Outbreak. Pretty kino desu, I respect this approach.

He doesn't appear to be a complete fucking idiot and is a decent director so I'm thinking it could probably be good.
