I use Windows because it's what I've always used. I've never had anything bad happen to me while using it, but again, I don't really do much on my home computer.

Never, only dual boot. May make it primary in October, though. Need into something like Bazzite for most games. May go with Arch just to try getting into terminal without turning into a trannyfaggot, but that seems impossible or Ubuntu Studio since I need a worklike station and it feels similar to SteamOS desktop wise. Windows is still needed for GUI executables and doing some things with the original Xbox and 360.

I play XI pretty much everyday so even with a dual boot partition I kept booting Windows anyway. I had it working for awhile on Linux but after an update the launcher for the private server I play stopped working with linux with the frontend and that made the bot break the addon and it was just becoming a headache trying to keep all these parts playing nice so I just went back to Windows, which kinda sucks because now I missed Linux stuff like the clipboard allowing me to store a bunch of different things at once. I was thinking about getting a windows laptop just to play XI while my desktop could go back to being Linux.

Yep, RIP. nVidia locks down their consumer GPUs and prevents usage in GPU passthroughs. You'd have to manually fuck around with a few config files and manually patch the GPU firmware or some shit. Thank God I never had an nVidia GPU, everything they do seems annoying as fuck.

It's kind of sweaty on AMD depending on the GPU.
A lot of AMD GPUs have inconsistent reset behavior, so resetting the GPU to give it to a different machine may require kernel patches or other workarounds (this appears well documented for the Navi series on the Arch wiki PCI passthrough guide, but documentation for later cards seems to drop off).
This is apparently not an issue with the 6000 XT series that doesn't have the reset bug, but for other GPUs you may want to check forums.

In my experience Nvidia (GTX 1080) always just werks and has standard behavior, so even if you do need to make some adjustments to the VM (such as preventing it from telling the PC that it is running in a VM), the GPU will have no issues.

I think that's just for older GPU guest drivers (earlier than version 465) that require you to switch kvm to hidden or off, to evade VM detection, but if your VM has current GPU drivers, then it will mostly just work with no problems on Nvidia.
I am currently using a passthrough 1080 to do my CAD work and other Windows stuff, so there shouldn't be any problems.
