Cod stopped being fun after Modern Warfare 2, the REAL MW2.

After that it just became an obsession with the meta, making the game increasingly schizophrenic, epileptic, with boring modes, increasingly ugly maps and without solving gameplay aspects such as the omnipresent sniper used as a gun.
Those who still play regular Cod play it out of habit, those who play Warzone do so because it's free, updated, doesn't have heroes and it's first person without being a semi-simfps, has no competition in this field.
If you think about it, that's also why COD continues to be successful. There are no more realistic FPS games with online multiplayer.

Battlefield has too long release cadence and kids get bored quickly of playing the same thing, even BF3 at the time lost a lot of console players with the release of the new annual Cod.

COD comes out every year and has an advantage in terms of FOMO and can adapt more quickly to changes.

In my country a Pegi 18 game is sold to anyone without any problem, and yes, even in my country, kids are spoiled with gift and credit cards but no parent would dream of giving their child their ID with the risk that they might do something stupid with their identity.

Call of Duty went through a thousand years of pain and misery before they threw the powers that be into a volcano and managed to produce a solid, grounded FPS. They gave it a new coat of paint and called it "Modern Warfare".

Guns acted like guns and people acted like people that were kitted out with 50 pounds of gear.

There was actually a great deal of debate about colored tracers. A lot of people didn't like them because it was unrealistic and they thought it was goofy.
Just to clarify what I'm talking about in case anyone is confused: a tracer round is a round that leaves a streamer in the air behind it. MW2019 had colored tracers locked behind a paywall. They did nothing and they were actually a big disadvantage to you, it's like the TF2 effect where you can pay for a colorful and obnoxious unusual effect, but it just makes you a target for other people.

That's it. That was all.

After that, it took very little time before they started adding tie-ins from movies like Rambo and very little time after that when they started adding guns with pink Hello Kitty anime uwu and then eventually in due time there's a skin of a sloth smoking a blunt with a bandolier made out of joints.

The player models are all effectively identical and you know who someone is before you have to think. An average skin is sand-colored and a rare skin is bright pink.

The most egregious thing that they ever did is make a skin with a clown mask where the hitboxes are slightly more slender or have the head slightly more forward. I would not be in favor of this and think it should be removed.
