I had a fine time running solo on Easy difficulty. Doing Normal is an exercise in frustration and RNG items, since hookshots/grapples basically become mandatory to hold for later, but you only have limited inventory when solo.

I got the two areas mixed up, my bad. I thought they made it where heat will remove faster once the wear-off point passes though.

That said, making lava rise in that last area will be aids, given how shit visibility is in there to even determine what the intended safe route would be.

Kiln's layout seems to have changed, there's now more obvious routes that lead up instead of needing to use climbing tools and make leaps of faith. There's also lavaflows on the outside of the volcano, so they might be encouraging people to try outside climbs too. I know they were possible before, just really hard.

Huh. I would have figured outside climbing would be impossible, since I assumed the long hallway into the volcano interior was what triggered the loading of that area. If they made it less aids to do without tools though then I'm fine without lava. Shit was aids prior due to requiring multiple pitons, grapples, etc, to make certain break points where you can reclaim stamina.

Yeah, the Mesa biome. Replaces Alpine for the next week, then future islands will randomly choose between Alpine and Mesa. Standing in the sunlight in Mesa will burn you, there's mirages, tornadoes, lots of spiky cacti, antlion traps, live dynamite traps, and so on. They also added balloons which can reduce your descend speed (2 balloons eliminates fall damage), cannons that you can launch yourself out of, and some other mysterious stuff.

Also, they added cannabalism. If you're at 70% hunger you start seeing other scouts as walking chickens, and you can bite at them to deal damage and restore hunger, while also taking curse damage.

I always had the hardest time with finding the routing on Alpine than any other biome for whatever reason. Snow biome is annoying with the frostbite damage, but at least it's easier to gauge a path.

Both. If you approach it it will auto-light and explode in a BIG explosion, dealing damage + fire damage and blasting anything caught in the explosion away. It will also cook anything caught in the explosion too. You can pocket them before they explode to use it yourself.

start on the left and climb until you get to the treetops, then shift far right. Just remember that vines are OP now and you lose basically 0 stamina climbing them and you climb them at around 5x the speed you used to.

Matchmaking needs servers, servers are overhead. With the current P2P system they don't ever have to worry about netcode or major desync issues with a server entity that they are responsible for. They might be shielding themselves from criticism with the easy bait of saying it's for "moderation" but in reality they just don't want the work/upkeep of managing the matchmaking service.

There's a mod that adds a lobby browser but it seems to be broken after the update. I don't think it has lobby codes but it might work for playing with /v/ if you can set a password. It'd probably be fun with the other mod that lets you play with up to 20 people.
