Every simulator series eventually degraded into codslop or trying desperately to please an increasingly autistic rivet counter fanbase, while being undermined by fifth column devs that only want to make their most favorite things viable.

Frankly the cod route seems less degrading.

I like combat mission. One time my soldiers got ambushed and I spent the next 30 mins trying to save them by creating a defensive perimeter and having the medics carry the injured. We got so bogged down that I couldn't hope to win the map anymore but I had fun just playing my own little black hawk down scenario.

When it's not fun. What kinda stupid question is that, OP?
You put realism into a game either when you want immersion, or because it helps make the gameplay more compelling.
Battle Brothers not having any women in your mercenary band because it's a low fantasy game is the kind of realism that helps immersion. Same for only being able to hire niggers in southern areas of the continent, meds in temperate areas, and nordoids in northern areas.
Meanwhile, being able to break a wooden shield by taking an axe swing to it and thus heavily debilitate the enemy's shield wall is the kind of realism that helps gameplay. All examples of good realism.
Meanwhile Cataclysm having vitamin deficiency is the kind of realism an autistic tranny thinks up because it's realistic. It's not something a player will think about in the context of his ingame journey, therefore no immersion benefit, and it's not something that severely changes gameplay for the better, therefore no gameplay benefit. Bad realism.

kinda a redundant question.
None of them would be able to recreate/resupply modern weapon systems.
A Final Countdown/Zippang scenario will not end well because lack of resupplies and spare parts.

I originally played combat mission on a pc magazine demo disc, it had 2 maps that I played to death. The maps were so big you could approach the objective markers from different angles, hold the town, push into the forest. It impressed me that the troops could get routed if their morale was low. I couldn't just send them to their death like age of empire or starcraft.

Good realism is contextual.
It needs to tie into the actual gameplay loop well or it just hinders the experience, which depends entirely on the type of game.
>high detailed combat sim
More detail the better, sure you eventually hit a limit of how much one player can actually manage, but the realism adds weight to the gameplay and enhances the immersion.
>fast paced FPS in a historical context
Looks are everything, it should be something you could watch and go "yeah that all looks like [SETTING X]", while incorporating elements of realism that work within the formula the game's trying to work within.
Think things like the banzai charges in WaW, reload animations, weapon sounds, etc.

Recon drones, aerial recon at the time was really limited, it would be God mode for the side that had them essentially, you'd see concentration of forces many miles away, you'd spot camouflaged position, correct indirect fire and a ww2 army can't effectively counter them because they wouldn't be able to see or detect them.

Modern AA would rip apart any WW2 aircraft easily. Wouldn't even need to use the missiles, the normal cannon with airburst would do fine.

However that anon is wrong because no matter how advanced, eventually it would run out of ammo before it could decide the war alone. It would absolutely do a lot of damage though.

It's pretty funny that in the end the Soviet doctrine of mass tanks with as little crew as possible turned out a better fit in 2020s wars. if your tank is going to get swarmed with drones anyway it may as well be a cheap shitcan you can replace easily.

That said I'm sure cheap APS will become available and will severely reduce the effectiveness of drones. Though at those speeds I imagine quite a few soldiers will get their heads blown off by the nearby tank's APS after being misidentified before they get it right.

Moskva had 180mm of armor belt. Modern anti-ship missiles have upwards of 500mm of RHA penetration. No ship has ever been built capable of withstanding a modern anti-ship missile, which is why CIWS (and defeating it) is such a huge deal.

The penetration doesn't matter, modern ASMs have between 200kg and 1000kg of modern high explosive. Yeah penetration might be 500 RHA, but that would mean it can't defeat an Abrams' armor which has easily 1300mm+ RHA in many places.

Do you think because of that an Abrams could survive 250kg-1000kg of explosives? No, it would be shredded to bits.
