The biggest flaws are the things that make it a "Zelda game." Majora's Mask is held back by the Zelda IP; it should have taken place in an entirely new universe. New characters and a new setting, perhaps realistic and modern instead of the fantasy setting. You already don't have Zelda, Ganon, Hyrule, or the Triforce. Get rid of Link too. Keep the curse, the rituals, the moon, the doomsday clock, and the power to go back in time. Keep the sidequests and the chance to interact with everyone in the world to observe how they handle the loss of everything. But get rid of the childishness, the temples and boss fights, everything that makes it just a stupid Nintendo game.

The biggest flaw in The Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask is the limited utility of masks outside of a select few that can be viewed as general purpose, and an adherence to "the Zelda formula" of roadblocking all progress behind the acquisition of a certain weapon or item, as it was a missed opportunity to offer the player a more free-form experience. In other words, maybe the game would be more interesting if it allowed players to approach any one of the four regions from the start, rather than forcing the acquisition of certain weapons (e.g. the bow), and thus funneling the player through a specific path of progression. If more of an emphasis were placed on the region's transformation as a means by which the player would explore the corresponding region, the game would've been stronger for it. Despite this, it's still a beloved, atmospheric, and memorable game and if you don't agree you should just troon out already you fucking faggot.

Did you play it as a kid? I feel like people who played MM as a kid were more tolerant of the 3 day cycle because as a kid you have more time to play games and you're not thinking about adult stuff like having existential crises about work and starting a family and all that stuff. Me personally as a kid I didn't like the 3 day cycle, but in fairness, I never owned the game, my only experience with it was watching some friends play it once, and renting it from blockbuster for a week. If I had owned the game I might have forced myself to like it and I probably would have liked it more since I would have had time. I played it recently and completed it albeit with the help of a guide, mainly because I just wanted to know the story. Sorry for the blogpost.

I will never understand low IQ niggers who are bothered by the time limit. What you're really bothered by is the fail state. You're told you can lose. But who fucking cares? You can just start again at very little penalty. In the remake you have near complete control over when you are with the song of double time. No money? Just get the silvers in the town. No bombs and arrows? Just go outside and hit the nearest grass it has fucking thirty of them in it. The main quest is also surprisingly lenient and linear. I was a total dipshit and fucked around a lot and I still managed to get dungeons with stray fairies done in like one day, the time limit is a complete non-essence.
It's even worse in Final Fantasy Lightning Returns where eventually you gain the ability to just effectively stop the timer but people still whine. Losers.

can't really agree with this on account of various people saying how it filtered them because of the time limit. Majora's mask is really fucking good, but there exist a lot of people in the camp of disliking it because of its gimmick. If anything it's the most challenging of the 3D zelda's, up until you crack the 3 day system.

The king of Ikana boss.
I think it is the worst designed boss and nobody ever talks about it, and when I bring it up, people just say "LOL U SUCK" and have zero response to my criticisms.

It took me like 8 attempts to kill this boss. He has an attack where his head floats around for an annoyingly long time, then homes in on you and bits you for an annoyingly long time, and if you don't have a lot of health, it becomes a war of HP attrition. There is no way I can see of dodging it, and I don't know how I got so unlucky, but he would IMMEDIATELY use the attack again, 3 times in a row, with nothing but invincibility frames the whole time

It is worse in some aspects, there's whole lists of shit they fucked up like the physics of the deku hop are wrong, the swimming is fucked up, bombers annoy you with hints even when you're in cutscenes, bosses are changed to have traditional Zelda-esque weak points and so on, but the QoL improvements are really good and so some insane guy made a patch that fixes most of the bad shit that you can use with emulators or custom firmware

I feel like it works in this case though, it increases the uncanniness of everything feeling quite not right and being a parallel world of sorts. Makes much more sense than other games that are supposed to take place in Hyrule. Why is Malon in Minish Cap and Oracle of seasons for example?

Stone Tower Temple alone mogs most Zelda dungeons. The mirror puzzles, flipping the whole damn place upside down, the eerie music, and having to use all your transformations back to back-it’s peak dungeon design. You actually feel like you’re solving something instead of just running down corridors hitting switches.

You couldn't fine control the time, so you had to wait for events to occur. Which meant a lot of time is spent just standing near the next objective, looking at the clock.

I understand not wanting to give the player a rewind ability, because if you can just rewind any time you want, then you end up with people abusing the mechanic like save states. Part of the "challenge", is tracking the routes of characters and showing up on time. However, they really needed to give the player the ability to fast forward in smaller intervals. Like hours or minutes.

Yeah, I've heard people say the boss is easy. I guess you got lucky. When the boss uses that floating head attack three times in a row, that is undodgeable and makes him completely invincible, skill/easy/hard don't factor into the equation at all.

I wish I had a normal fight against him where he'd only use the attack like twice the whole fight, and I beat him without the fight leaving any memorable influence on me. But instead he'd use it like 8 times the whole fight, and every time he'd use it it'd take away a heart. If I bothered going to bottle some fairies it probably wouldn't have even been a problem, but it's still bad game design.

Not useful enough. She can only help you skip a couple of hours, or half a day. And you have to go out of your way to see her, which is tedious at best, and not an option at worst. As leaving your current destination to see her, and then returning to said location either takes too much time, or too little time to be worth the effort.

I dunno man. Stone tower is probably the best dungeon in MM, the music is fantastic, and the eerie feel is great like you said, but the statue puzzles are all so annoying with the forced cutscene each time. Using every mask + the bow + ocarina + whatever else means there's a lot of menuing too.
Plus, every Majora's mask dungeon has the problem of having a bow or arrow as the item, which feels pretty lame and predictable. Majora's mask is unironically my favorite of all time but the dungeons are probably the weakest part for me.

I find the 3-day reset much easier as an adult because it's pretty easy to finish an entire zone in one cycle, especially with time slowed. As a kid, I had trouble beating even the swamp dungeon before time ran out, and they all took me several tries. I also never got all the masks, but as an adult I can look everything up online easily and 100% the game without issue.

The saving system.
A gameplay session is a little too committal, you either have to reset the cycle to perform a permanent save, or use the owl statue to do a temporary quick-save.

Whilst you can save anywhere, you'll lose progress on any specific objective such as if you were scaling the stone tower, Kafei's quests, etc.
To do a quick save, you still have to abandon what you were doing and go track down an owl statue, if you can at least use the song of soaring to get there.

Software needs to meet the player's needs and schedule, not the other way around. The 3DS version understood this and saving was modernised, and outside of that there was sleep mode.
