Also special mention to the Underground Pass. When I first did Underground Pass as a kid I encountered another player who was very high level and for some reason thought he actually a quest NPC so I ran away from him, fearing for my life.

Kandarin has Ardougne, I got 99 thieving there back in the day. Yanille is a fun place, castle wars is fun. Asgarnia has Falador and Taverly which I like. There are no best in slot methods there or anything but it doesn't need to, they're cool places and that's all it needs to be

How did it affect the gameplay for you?

Despite the stupid long maze during hallowvale, the myrique questline was kino. Even something simple as vampire slayer was great. Also enjoyed underground pass a lot. Legend quests suffers from the RSC to RS2 pipeline and is janky af. Honestly all the quests are great. Even MEP2. Too bad your average runescape player is a pleb that has to follow guides everywhere.

Monkey madness - Obvious why, fuckin classic
Desert treasue 1/2 - both are great quests, the formula this quest has is just really fucking effective
Ritual of the Mahjarret - This is the climax of runescape before the god cancer seeped in, literally everything builds up to this and comes together, that final fight feels like pure chaos and is great, looking forward to the osrs as long as that FAGGOT sliske doesn't ruin it.
The needle skips - Just a solid sad story and piecing it together feels great. It's garden of death but with substance
Song Of The Elves - Fun climax, actually fighting a version of seren was cool and the quest as a whole is far more interesting then the flop RS3 version, light puzzle here is actually fun
The chosen commander - Zanik quests are always kino and the finale is no different, a more difficult OSRS version would be great though, bandos was piss easy
Love story - I like old wise man and breaking into another POH was fun. The idea of two players arguing over quest fagging was also fun
One small favour - Fuck you its funny, one of the funniest quests in the game.

Tl;dr they trimmed down a lot of the dialogue, tweaked a bunch of cutscenes (for the worse). Like the iconic door opening cutscene: https://runescape.wiki/images/WGS_door_open.gif - just fades to black in the OSRS version without any animation.

there are a few decent quests after, but a ton of stinkers (that people don't realize are bad because they're habitual wiki users) and the grinds you have to do to the highest levels are just way too much, but f2p's small world which limits how terrible a quest can be, and only needing to go up to like 30s and 40s in a few skills so the grinds are small, yea, it's kino

You should do quests whenever you can, they're the best way to train your skills and unlock new shit. But they don't let you just skip the game to base 70s, you need to train every skill at some point and the whole game is interlocking requirements like that. You take 2 steps north from the farming guild and you're in this alien mountain, 2 steps south and you're in a swamp, 3 steps to the east and you're in a burning canyon. What is it, a disneyland? You're probably talking about scales of the interest points. Hosidius and Lovakeng feel about right to me, then there's kourend castle which is eh, fine, arceuus with buildings half the size of the castle, and library twice the size of the castle, piscarillius which is a shanty town the size of Varrock, but with skyscrapers and a shazien encampment also the size of the varrock.

Jagex has said many times that the gods will not be appearing in Gielinor proper, and a number of events that happen in DT2 happen a little differently in RS3 to the point where the reasons they showed up in RS3 aren't possible in the oldschool timeline
I think Varlamore's recent final dawn quest is a good example. A few NPC's in the previous quest were "revealed" to be the walking gods Ralos/Runal by Metzli to her cult, only for them to just be regular ass (albeit strong) human siblings

Quests have gotten significantly better
The recent final dawn quest blows it out of the water and that's just a master vs grandmaster
Desert treasure 2 is probably the best quest in an mmo. Certainly better than anything in xiv or wow (used to play both)
Currently imo for grandmaster quests its desert treasure 2 > song of the elves > dragon slayer 2 > monkey madness 2 > while guthix sleeps
But I suspect the upcoming vampire finale will put it solidly in #2 because the vampire quests are all pretty fantastic

Too bad the quest situation has been the opposite in RS3, the age of chaos/fort quest series has been really cringe inducing, especially the god awful retcon they did with the Raptor.

Worth it, it's an iconic quest, gives you a ton of combat exp and you need it for the Dragon scimitar and Recipe for Disaster
The new Varlamore quest gives you a weapon that's basically a better version of the Dragon scimmy and you get it for free, but that has a lot more requirements, all you need to do Monkey Madness is 25 Agility for The Grand Tree and 43 Prayer for protection prayers. Plus some supplies like antipoison and food.

Also super worth it, you basically just need 70 Ranged for black d'hide and a good ranged weapon (Rune crossbow or the new hunter crossbow from Varlamore) and good supplies (prayer potions and good food/brews). The fire cape is your best melee cape basically forever (unless you ever do The Inferno) and it's a huge upgrade, it's worth getting as soon as you can.

RFD is also 100% worth doing. Barrows gloves are absolutely insane, best-in-slot gear for every style in almost every stat until late/endgame, it's probably the biggest single gear upgrade in the whole game. The +12 Strength bonus alone is massive, the only other equipment in the game that matches that are the Ultor Ring and Amulet of Rancor, both ~100m items.
Aside from getting 70 Cooking the requirements also aren't that bad, you only need around ~50 in most skills and you'll get a lot of exp just doing the quests you need for it. Legends' Quest for example is where most of the requirements come from and it's kind of a pain in the ass but you get a massive 120k exp drop at the end of it that you can put into Herblore or Prayer or whatever other annoying skill you want. 70 Cooking is a bigger grind but it's also really easy, you just need to catch a lot of fish and cook them.

Some people fucking hate it but it's mostly just boring and repetitive. You can skip a lot of early levels with EXP from quests.
The standard way to train is doing Rooftop Courses which give okay EXP and make progress toward the Graceful outfit. Some people try to be efficient and do something like making arrows or alching a stack of items while they're running the course, or you can just watch something in another window and click the big green boxes if you don't want to focus. If Rooftop courses are too mind-numbing you can also try the Brimhaven Agility Arena, you can't get Graceful there but it's better EXP and has some other rewards.

It's easy to train though, if you're a main it's even profitable to just buy raw fish from the GE and cook it. With cooking gauntlets and using the Hosidius range with the diary, you stop burning Lobsters at Level 60.

As part of the build-up to Desert Treasure 2 they added a minigame called Guardians of the Rift
You basically just run around going through portals to every altar in the game (except the weird ones) and crafting all kinds of runes and you get to keep all of them when the game's over, that's it, it's pretty great as much as Runecrafting can be.
With your rewards you can buy a Runecrafting outfit that gives you 60% more runes with the full set, a ring that lets you teleport directly to the elemental rune altars, and you can pull a needle that lets you combine and upgrade all your Runecrafting pouches into a bigger all-in-one pouch.

This question is for the one RS3 player on the planet who's probably lurking this thread, does the economy/gear progression make sense to you and I'm just too rooted in nostalgia or is it completely fucked?
I quit a bit after dungeoneering but it's hard for me to comprehend the fact that a whip is like 50k or that you can spend 3 minutes killing chickens and come out with a 60k inventory or that dragon items are worthless or being able to just stroll into God Wars Dungeon 2/3 without any quest or skill requirements and afk a money maker boss without issue.

when I came back GWD2 was about to release and i played another 4 years. I was coming back after a 10 year break and wanted to get straight to the action at endgame like everyone else. It all actually feels great. The lodestone teleports, the dailies for herblore xp, the hourly dungeoneering sinkholes, events, 120 skills, everything has been optimized to have afk and active variants, minigames, quests, huge variety in armor and weapons. Many of the best rings and farming weapons are endgame quest gibs.
People talk about it being mtx hell but that's not even true. You get 2 free spins for being a member every day and free spins from doing quests. But you still have to play the game to grind gold and get your diaries and shit. There's still a ton of grinding, agility still sucks, crafting still sucks.
If you want to play an mmo because its popular, stick with osrs. When I played rs3 I did it for myself and I really enjoyed it.

Every style has a baseline sub-100m setup around T87-90, but a bunch of upgrades and getting true full BiS is another 10-20b for each style. The T90 necro setup is OP for how easy it is to get though since the other styles rely a lot more on T95 weapons and expensive ability unlocks for their power though.

You would want to pay for members for as long as u can because there's a lot of time u must spend doing quests and grinding. By priff you get 300k a day from speckled sandstone and slayer drops alch for shitloads past 90

Grinding bond money sucks, I wouldn't pay with bonds unless you're endgame and boss for fun at which point the money pours in and you have nothing to spend it on. Same as OSRS basically.
