Holy fuck the backtracking in this is so mind numbingly boring. I fucking hate "LE INTERCONNECTED!!!" meme

Down the toilet this vile slop goes.

never liked a Metroid game enough to get even halfway through it yet I loved axiom verge 1

>game has pisseasy combat and platforming with literally zero stakes, risk, strategy, or challenge
>le git gud
Retard, it's literally one of the easiest games I've ever played and that's in large part why it's shit. The backtracking is just braindead mind-numbing tedium of retreading an area you already fucking beat

Since it's a bait thread I just wanna ask why is the box art framed by Kraid's toes? Like I'm not complaining, they're hot but it's like he's floating up there and isn't even very noticeable yet they wanted his toes to pop above the box art frame just like Samus and Ridley, so is he supposed to be in the background or not?

The backtracking is pretty snappy though, assuming you didn't miss an obvious upgrade that you need to progress. Out of the entire subgenre I'd say this has some of the least egregious backtracking

Assuming you're not a complete retard, the only time you have to do major backtracking in this game is to get the Grapple Beam. And by that point, you have an almost full arsenal so you can use that opportunity to pick up additional expansions along the way. Then once you get the Grapple Beam, the rest of the game is pretty much linear. Super Metroid is one of the only games in its genre that actually handles backtracking well.

Maybe? But then he's choosing to dangle himself over the edge of this pit that's big enough for him to fall into with a clear spike that would stab right into his ass. idk it's still silly to me

Already beat? This isn't a fucking beat em up or some kind of level-based game. You explore, find powerups, and use those powerups to open new areas that you found previously. You haven't cleared/beaten an area until you've exhausted all exploration paths. This isn't a theme park ride where you just go in one direction, see each set piece and then get off the ride.
Already beat...
I swear backtracking haters are all retarded.

Do zoomers like Nirvana? I thought they hated things that predated their existence.

Walking sim. Metroidvanias are garbage.

They sell ironic Nirvana and Green Day shirts at Target now. It would have been the equivalent of wearing an ironic Molly Hatchet or Three Dog Night shirt in the 90s.
Anonymous No.717902139
Yeah, the less backtracking there is, the better an exploration game is. It gets worse if you walking speed is lower than it should be. I don't play 'oidvanias much, but that's how it feels playing most platformers.

No they just wear their shirts for some reason. I can confirm as a zoomer myself.

Super Metroid will always be the top tier in maps because of unintentional(?) skips like getting the Power Bombs in Norfair and getting the Wave Beam before the Grapple. Once you beat Ridley you're pretty much done, it's a straight shot all the way to Tourian and not a single Metroid game after Super figured it out. Look how many of them have shit like Power Bombs as your final item, and you have to backtrack to every single previous zone to use your Power Bombs to get ... more Power Bombs. It's unfortunate that Maridia is so shit though.

I've already cleared out like 95% of the area, you fucking moron.

If you make one wrong turn, backtrack
If you accidentally take the one-way (who the fuck knows why it's one way) shortcut, backtrack.
If you don't know which area the next progression unlock is in, holy mother of backtrack, literally scour every pixel in the game.
If you're heading to another zone, backtrack.

And no, I don't fucking care if there's still one more useless missile upgrade I can find if I slowly and methodically scan every single pixel of every single room. Fuck off retard.

I was actually surprised how easy to find where to go and how rarely you get lost. I only looked up one minor thing the entire game (which zone the grapple hook is in), and even that would have been unnecessary if I could just mark my fucking map (or if it just actually showed doors you've seen).

But what I did not expect was a shitload of backtracking, no fast travel, and very few (near worthless) shortcuts

Game is a pisseasy joke and I beat it blind in one day in a few hours.

Why is backtracking bad?
Anonymous No.717909960
>>717908052
Because thinking is too hard for people. They just want to run in a straight line and mash buttons. Backtracking is obtrusive and annoying because it interrupts the autopilot and forces them to stop and think about what they're doing.
