Actually, I love Dragon Quest and its names. What I meant by retarded is the progression. I associated prefixes with AoE variations. Plus the last spells often remove the extra syllable, which makes absolutely no sense.

One of the climaxes of Dai no Daiboken has the Great Satan use Mahokanta to reflect the mage's trump card, the combined hot/cold legendary spell Medroa.
With the gay american localizers (all americans are homosexual in 2025, as we all know, in good part due to gay localizations) you'd have the "Big Fat" cast "Bounce" to block the mage's homoerotic spell "Frizz Crackle"

1&As a yurop whose first exposure to DQ was 8, I grew up with the onomatopoeia, and like it due to that. But yeah, without growing up with that I would probably hate it.

This never happened. Starting from VIII when we had the new localizations, it was always like Spell, Spell-le, Ka-spell-le.
Once the games got a new fourth tier spell though, the English names got shifted around so Ka-spell-le became the name for the fourth tier, while the third tier spells were renamed to Ka-spell.

No they really don't.
For OP, 'Sizz' is a translation of 'gira' or ギラ. It's not an occult word- in fact the newest Precure uses a close neighbour of it 'kira' as a sort of catchphrase (kirakiranran).
It just means something like light or sparkle, and it probably uses the 'gi' because that comes off as harsher with the 'g' sound.

The following two follow the same naming pattern as sizz, just with more stitched on.
Begirama is the second grade and is a similar nonsense word original to DQ. Begiragon is the third grade and is, again, a nonsense word.
