>Civilization 7, which released this year is now closer to Civilization 4, a 20 year old release than it is of Civilization 5, who released 10 years ago and has twice the players
This is so embarassing, they keep releasing patches and/or DLC montly, and the ensuing player count bumps only last a week or two KWAB.
All they had to do was not have forced civ-switching and ages. All they had to do was not have Harriet Tubman leading Rome.

I've only really played 5. I bought 6 but have not even got half way through a game.

In general the game is kinda lame desu

Uhm ANON, don't forget that it was a simutaneous launch on console, which automatically means the steam player counts are IRRELEVANT. The game is a MAJOR SUCCESS on consoles because it had a simutaneous launch. You are just a HATER.

The game is buggy and broken, and so even if you enjoy playing it you're rolling a mixed dice that they nerf something you're fucking around with, update it etc and it breaks your save on something you're giving a large amount of time dedication to complete.

I want to play more, and the updates to the exploration age look more fun, but I can't be assed until they fully release a nonbroken version of the game.

Fuck roadmaps

I will never understand why they chose to ruin Civ. They had such a good thing going.

I liked the 6 designs because I grew up on Asterix comics.

Well they also just released the Settlers Edition which is basically the Founders Edition but way cheaper. So anyone that bought the game at release got screwed. Pretty baller move.

It's funny that VII shills love pretending that the handful people complaining about VI's artstyle is the same as everyone complaining about the core mechanics of VII. It's very disingenuous.

Was it too much to ask for civ 6 gameplay with the artstyle of the previous games.
Instead we got this garbage.

So are there any mods that stop the civilization change between eras or is that a hardcoded feature that you will just have to fucking deal with if you play 7?

why would they not hardcode the damn main mechanic.

Considering all the interesting decisions they decided upon with Civ 7, I would not have been that surprised if the civ change wasn't a hardcoded feature because the interns they had responsible for coding the game didn't know how to do it.

Mouth breathing nomgroids who only buy things they've heard of. The game is the 12th best selling console game all year somehow

Because they can't help themselves. Every sequel has to reinvent the wheel to justify its existence, even if that means gutting everything that made it enjoyable in the first place. Instead of building on a solid foundation like Civ IV or even the early days of V, they throw in gimmicks, "evolve" mechanics just for the sake of bullet points on a press release, and then act surprised when nobody likes it. It’s like watching someone slowly smash a stained-glass window with a rock because they think β€œmodern art” will sell better.

Was it hubris. Why did Firaxis see Humankind flop, then copy Humankind for CIV7

It really was weird to see Civ7 do the same fucking thing that Humankind decided to do with their civilization-game. I don't know if both had the same idea separately but Humankind just came out earlier, but after playing HK a bit it did make wonder why the fuck they even bothered to give the civs names since you just throw them out all the time for a new one. It would have been a bit better of a mechanic in my opinion if they just threw out the concept of following historical civilizations altogether, except for shit like architecture, weapon choices etc. Let the player name the civ and if you really have to, have some little optional tidbits about "this sort of shit you are now following with your civilization was used by these people in real life".

Really hate to see the core pillar of the genre become so creatively bankrupt that they copy an indie studio, worse than that one of the shittier games from an indie studio, for their next 10 year project. I want to add some speculation on how this happened but I am bewildered and clueless. How did we get here?
Anonymous No.717913338
>>717911607
We ripped off districts for Civ 6 and it did pretty well! Well our company has brain drained and can't come up with our own ideas anymore, let's just rip off Humankind since that'll do well. And we'll make the ages even more heavily stratified so an already unpopular mechanic feels even worse!
