They don't want to ever give up fallout because giving it to Obsidian only hurt their reputation and made people want an actually good real rpg instead of the generic slop they create. It's the reason why they created the TV show because they needed to get another Fallout IP out there but didn't have the time because of Starfield but they weren't going to ever hand it to another studio to do for them so they can avoid having another "New Vegas" rep damage situation. Even funnier is when 76 was being released, they kept repeating and lying that "Bethesda" game studios was creating it except it was a complete different branch. They'll never let go of the IP now so they can avoid getting butthurt again unless Microsoft forces them to do so, and that will be the day everyone will see that Bethesda is in some deep shit

I doubt he can really do it alone, I don't think any of the other guys who worked on NV are at obsidian anymore and one guy does not a good game make. And even the other OG fallout devs are gone at this point. Should accept we aren't getting another fallout until the 2040's and it will probably be just starfield in the post apocalypse but even less content to make way for settlement building and 80% of quests being radiant.

I'm not going to say Fallout 4 is a great game, but it's overhated. I would go as far to say that FO4 is a realistic (by Bethesda standards) improvement from FO3. And it would be a straight upgrade if it didn't feel so barebones in terms of quest narratives / player agency. The bugs are strangely more annoying in FO4 than in previous games too. It needed way more development time.

how? gameplay, arguably, sure, at least mechanically(altho you can argue it misses even more system than even 3, which was already dumbed down), but fallout was always mainly about the writing, and you cant with cleanr conscious say that 4 is anything but pure fucking DOGSHIT in that department. Never mind the fact that there's no real gameplay advantage to the raiders outside of the perks. Bethesda couldn't even be bothered to include them in the main story despite forcing you to move them into the Commonwealth.

That launch had to be one of the highest profile fuckups of all time. Hell, NV was never really "fixed" on PS3. But that didn't stop me from putting a ton of time into it.

If anything, NV proves that "mods will fix it" could be a viable strategy if Bethesda put enough effort into the writing and role-playing mechanics. Fallout 4 isn't even a bad game. It's just too shallow to hold enough attention.

Sawyer wrote the most interesting aspects of the story in FNV. It feels like he was the only one that actually wanted to use the settings for things besides "WACKY DARK SCIENTIFIC EXPERIMENTS". It's also clear that Gonzales contributed a lot (he was the fucking lead, but for some reason, we barely talk about him).
Avellone has some really great ideas (Dead Money is the best DLC I have even played, story wise) but he also has some works that seriously make me question what the hell is going inside his head (like Old World Blues).

All in all, you need not one, but many creative people with vision to be able to resurrect Fallout as an IP that is worth caring about.

the only thing that was great that avellone did in fallout is dead money. old world blues sucked. ulysses sucked. lonesome road was almost as bad as mothership zeta. new reno and vault city relatively suck too.

gonsalzes was the most important writer by far in NV and sawyer's work on the game was far better than avellone's.

tim cain and especially leonard boyarsky are by far the most important people to fallout (notice how Arcanum is a vastly better fallout spiritual sequel than fallout 2 was)

that said, avellone's PS:T was great and Alpha Popamole and KOTOR 2 are fun - the lad needs more projects where his part is basically solo
