For whatever reason, these are stupidly common when playing on low difficulty but don't show up much on the higher ones. It never really feels like a grind to me. No, if you try to use it on armored vehicles like tanks, you end up wasting your ammo pool. It does well enough against light vehicles like ghosts and warthogs because the vehicles have lower health. It's mostly just for anti-infantry though, it's presumed you'll be using the rocket launcher or spartan laser for anti-tank duties.

The sniper does damage, but you're better off using another weapon or taking out drivers/pilots than shooting vehicles themselves. In a Fiesta Firefight match on Infinite you can chip damage the enemy Phantoms with that infinite ammo supply you get, but someone with any sort of explosive weapon will destroy it so much faster that at best you're trying to kill steal from someone else on the job.

To be fair it's not like the Killzone collab really did anything special either. The rifle was straight up just a side-grade to default stuff, a little extra ammo and oomph but more recoil if I remember right, and I can't even remember what the sniper it had was like. These collabs are generally supplements to the game rather than trying to be a niche, even if they end up probably similar to something pre-existing but tweaked.

If that was the case I wouldn't say it's paywalled. I'd have to invest time grinding super credits instead of enjoying the game like I want, which is paying with time instead of money.
I could in theory just play over and over and over without grinding but that takes 6 times more games than if grinding (going out of your way to get to POI where there are super credits) and the game is not so varied that that doesn't get far too repetitive. I kept seeing the same things all the time, without a warbond to unlock new stuff it stopped being fun.

I'm well aware of that, my point is that you don't use sabots to destroy armored vehicles, Halo's sniper rifle is an anti-material rifle, not an anti-tank rifle. Anti-tank rifles haven't seen much use on the battlefield since WW1 because explosive weaponry supplanted its role completely. Anti-material rifles are used against lightly armored vehicles at most, using either sabot rounds to kill the crew through the armor, or .50 caliber slugs to damage the engine block. We know that the Halo sniper rifle fires sabots, and its usecase in the games is as an anti-infantry weapon, so it wouldn't work for the role anon has in mind for it as an anti-tank weapon.

In short, it's meant to pop heads.

The SRS99-AM Halo Headpopper doesn't state ballistics data aside from firing the "M232 14.5x114mm armor-piercing, fin-stabilised discarding sabot round". The closest real world analogue we have to that is the Steyr IWS 2000. Which has an initial velocity of 1450 m/s firing 35g projectiles (20g when the fins are discarded). It can punch through 40mm of steel plate.

If we get the reach rifle in Helldivers, it'd probably be 4 shots with damage equivalent to safe charge railgun shot. Might be a fun niche you can exploit against bots.

Helldivers has a more granular approach to armor penetration than that, and in either case the sniper CAN damage most vehicles in Halo (albeit ineffectively). The existing AMR in Helldivers fires 12.7x99 solid shot AP which can already pen most enemies, so the SRS99 firing 14.5x114 APFSDS having better armor pen isn't that radical of an idea. For perspective, the W.A.S.P. from the Killzone collab firing ~30mm micro rockets has anti-tank level penetration.

Initially you'll be completing missions to earn the basic in-game currency, which is spent on strategems, which are the different kinds of air/orbital strikes, support weapons, sentries etc you select for your mission loadout. After you've bought all that you'll spend the rest on primary weapon customization.

Separately & more importantly, you'll be grinding the premium currency for Warbonds (aka battlepasses), which contain armor, weapons and sometimes strategems. These are RNG item pickups. The drop rate isn't too bad and there's a mod out there to highlight any spawns. /hdg/ is usually willing to run a grinding lobby if you ask
