Ff dimensions 2 is not really the type of game you’d expect. FF Dimensions 1 is basically a traditional pixel FF with a job system. You control two separate parties with their own set of jobs each (though they share the first five or so).

FFD being better than FF5 is mostly opinion and up to you but I’d say its similar enough that any ff5 fan will enjoy it. It also has its own spin on certain jobs like memorist and you’re heavily encouraged to level certain types of joh combinations to get fusion abilities.
Fair warning, up until the post game there is a limit on how many job points you get per character as they are mainly progression based and used to unlock the level cap of jobs in each individual character. By the end of the game you will have roughly enough jp to max out 4-5 jobs on each character, I recommend planning ahead at least for your first build. In the post game you can grind every job to max on every character by grinding the coins that can be traded for jp.
