tnl is like lineage 2, and I think that's free now so that might interest you, although it looks dated.
you could also check out new world. they've changed a lot but it used to be about big guild fights over territory control, and that seems to be the kind of game you're looking for.
personally I find pvp in MMOs to be a fucking trainwreck in all cases and would rather play
>wow (arenas)
so convoluted, requires extensive game knowledge, the right addons, is a scripted rock paper scissors event, and is plagued by boosters.
>wow (battlegrounds)
too casual. gw2 probably has better battlegrounds too.
>wow (open world)
boring as shit. same problem that you faced in albion. open world pvp is fucking dogshit in every game. 0 competition, can boost your ego I guess by shitstomping somebody into the ground, but likely it will be you getting camped or having your other tasks interrupted when you're not in the mood for it.
you want to level up? sorry there's a thirdie here!
you want to farm some rocks? sorry there's a thirdie here!
you want to travel from A to B? sorry there's a thirdie here!
and the problem with most of the non-wow games is the p2w, which cool if that's your thing go for it.
the only thing missing from the esports games with vastly superior pvp, is the large scale stuff that you're looking for, but in my experience they just devolve into who has more aoe spells to cast and there's no room for skill expression. pretty boring to me, but eh.
also you should keep an eye on ashes of creation, it might do what you're looking for but it's still years away from being released.
