How bad is 2XKO going to flop?

The fact a big IP, F2P game is still going to flop means I can't even see it recovering after 2 years. If it was 16 characters, I could see it growing over time. 10 characters is absurd.

I remember hearing about this years ago shit back when it had a working title that was somehow less ass than its actual title.

I suspect it'll flop the same way as Heroes of the Storm did, i.e. still doing decently well but not comparable to the big names (SF, Tekken, likely Tokon) and definitely not well enough for Riot to want to keep supporting it past a year or so

ITT: anon doesn't realize the game is going to flop because it is so far from beginner friendly that new players will stand absolutely no chance against anyone who plays tag fighters. The system mechanics are going to deflect all casuals instantly when the auto combo doesn't work and gets them hit after a push block and whiff punish. League players will leave in droves the first time they are hit for over half their health bar by any assist who swaps to front. Alpha lab players who know multiple pairs of characters can do the exact same inputs for 40%+ health damage will pick those pairs and rocket up ranks while timmy auto combo is being punished the same way every single game. It's going to flop because they've made BBtag skullgirls, and nobody plays either of those games.

It's going to go the route of Legends Of Runeterra. It's going to launch to great fanfare. Everyone's going to play and shill the shit out of it. It might even actually be good to play. Then they'll introduce a competitive circuit. Mainstay Strive, Smash and low tier Tekken / SF6 players will jump ship because they breathe clout. Game's going to be popular for about a year. At some point, the FGC will go back to their main games. The game might attract some casual fans and some might even play 2XKO mainly, but in general the playerbase will 100% decrease. Once this happens, 2XKO will slowly start to pull out of the game, and at some point I expect them to say "fuck it - it's on maintenance, you can play the game all you want, but no more champs, skins, updates, it's basically over, but you can play our kuso on discord if you really like", then once the wheels completely fall off, the game will die like Multiversus.

Kind reminder - name is 2XKO, a tag fighter with 8 characters that's been in development for 6 years. It's supposed to go head to head with Marvel Tokon in 2026. What do you really think is going to happen?

Dota 2 is pretty stagnant. It goes up and down from 600k to 800k concurrent depending on events. With that said, they got free hats for long term play added so now it's rising.

I feel like just in the case of RTS fightan players overestimate potential audience for the genre.
It's one thing to make a big shootan or even a card game when they were at their peak but fgg-ots will most likely stay with their favourite IPs and there's not going to be a lot of newcomers to the genre.

It's a wider issue than that. It's the archetypical game for compfags with little casualfag expression.
The average player thinks they play seriously, and will queue ranked for all games they play, but put 0 effort into understanding the flow of the game at more than a shallow degree. This is perfectly fine for most comp games because they're team based. This is fine for stuff like card games because people can build jank and have it work.
Fightan games as a genre (well, non-hybrid ones) are an antithesis to all of that. Same with arena shooters. They're all heavily designed to be about moving properly and cautiously and responding with the right tool with twitchy godtier reactions. It's the most compfag of all among the compfag gaming design principles. A player bringing jank will be stomped out. A player being distracted by any playstyle other than compfaggotry will not even see it coming. At no point does the pace of the match change to match how much it has progressed either, you will not suddenly find a way to change the playing field - you got releantless beat at minute 1, so you can predict you will be too at minute 10.

Eh, a fighting game that touches the correct normie buttons can sell absolutely retarded numbers. MK11 did 15m copies in 3 years.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate did 36m copies in 7 years.
Tekken 7 did 12m in 5 years.
DragonBall FighterZ did 10m in 5 years.

Even Starcraft 2 in its prime looks enviously at these sorts of numbers and there are simply no RTS games that have kept pace with the market. AoE4 sold the same 4m as 1997's AoE1. The best selling Total War games are also in the 3-4m range, Rome 2 did 4m, Three Kingdoms did 3m, Warhammer games did around 2.3m a piece.

But these are the giants, the superb outliers of fighting games. You need a perfect normie magnet name and gameplay loop to get that sort of numbers churning.
Whereas the reality is that LoL is already on its slow way out as the peak of ASSFAGGOT popularity has passed. And more importantly, this game doesn't look at all to be enticing even for hardcore fightan people, let alone John McNormie. There's just nothing there for them as far as we can tell.
