FUCK THIS TRASH GAME
You make one wrong turn or miss one tiny pixel and have to backtrack for ages, made worse by the absolutely worthless map that doesn't mark even the most basic of details.

Does anyone actually enjoy backtracking through the area they literally just fully fucking explored?

The main issue is the combat and platforming are both terrible, provide zero challenge or stakes whatsoever, and require absolutely zero thought or strategy.

So what you have is a game where you just endlessly roam and backtrack through long series of generic, samey rooms that all just blend together in your mind as one jumbled, forgettable mess, with enemies and platforming that is just a minor inconvenience rather than actually engaging or challenging in the slightest.

When you're exploring a new area it's like a 6/10
But when you're backtracking or hunting the one tiny destructible tile needed to progress it's like a 1.5/10

It marks elevators, recharge rooms, and even tells you when there’s a hidden item in the room, what more do you need?

Why would it need to? If you can’t open a door/gate, that passageway abruptly ends. If you see an unfinished passage, that’s where the door or gate is. Pretty simple stuff, anon

The amount of cognitive dissonance for you to type this bullshit is staggering.

I just can't get over how the game gives you up to 14 energy tanks, 4 supply tanks 2 suits that both double your HP, has energy refills in every zone, every other room has those little geysers that infinitely spawn weak trashmobs to top off your health and ammo quickly, and every single enemy in the game drops a huge amount of health and resources.

It's actually almost impossible to die outside of bossfights unless you really try and just sit there and facetank enemies for minutes on end without shooting.

Not even one single (non-boss) enemy or hazard in the game poses any threat whatsoever to the point that they exist solely as an extremely minor inconvenience, like a harmless gnat just buzzing around you.

It just kills the entire game. What's the fucking point? It's like you're playing with invincibility cheat on at all times.

It's not even an exaggeration to say that around 98% of this game is just a walking sim, a glorified cutscene, where there is zero challenge and zero stakes, and it requires zero thought, skill, strategy, or focus from the player. You just wander around scanning every tile of every room, and all the enemies, hazards, and most of the bosses might as well not even be there because they add nothing except the slightest bit of inconvenience.

The only bad part of it, I think, is that you often don't have time to think before a Metroid or SA-X comes charging through the door behind you. I get that it's supposed to be a fast paced run for your fucking life sequence but even a couple extra seconds would've gone miles.
But I still thought it was really fun overall.

You basically have no reaction time for that whole sequence. It's a blind trial & error run you can't possibly ever do the first try with how quickly the SA-X are on your ass and how fast the Metroid's thaw

You've been well trained at that point in the game to bomb any wall that has a ledge before it. Hell, it's one of the earliest things you do to proceed. Just this time you'll end up running through it rather than expecting to bomb it.

There is, but it's extremely subtle, and that image ocbsures it.
This is a lighted room, with Firefleas that when killed make the room darker and darker until it's pitch black. Lighted rooms glow. The secret passage is actually illuminated by this glowing effect, but only very briefly on the brightest frames. If you kill even one of firefleas, the room becomes too dark to see the passage. Luckily the firefleas aren't in your path to the top of the room.
Pic related. You can see the passage.

No, they're not hard, outside of a couple bosses, they are literally some of the easiest games in existence, where it's basically impossible to die unless you specifically sit there and facetank enemies without shooting for minutes straight on end.

Mother Brain in Zero Mission was like 50x harder than anything else in the game but was only notable for its difficulty compared to how absolutely braindead and mindless everything else was.

I think the devs just underestimated how much of the collectables people will actively seek out on their first playthrough. Then again, Super Metroid took two and a half years to be made, so I figure they'd have playtested it thoroughly inhouse.

It's the complete opposite. It's one of the most braindead, easy, casualized games in not just the SNES library, but all of gaming (outside of like two bossfights).

Even in a low percent run, traversing stages offers zero challenge or danger whatsoever.

The bosses are the only aspect that can actually be challenging by limiting your resources, but even then, they are pushover when you actually know the strategy, even with minimal resources.

I can't emphasize enough just how easy this game is outside of a few bossfights. Like literally probably the easiest retro action game I can think of.

The game is not even designed for note-taking as it has no coordinates for any of the maps.

Thre game ultimately comes down to either memorizing dozens of different lock types and their exact locations out of hundreds of samey, generic rooms, or just wandering around until you stumble on them again.

The combat, platforming, hazard avoidance are completely braindead and provide zero challenge whatsoever, so I guess we just cope by acting like slowly and methodically checking every single tile of every single room is somehow fun or engaging?
