It's literally Uncharted x Dead Space sort of over-shoulder shooter slop, with literal artificial difficulty in form of the Auto-balancer, with more nerfs and casualization thanks to Ink Ribbons being an optional feature only found on the "Hardcore" mode. You also get more item space, way too OP knife, and all that shitty HUD trash clutters the screen and guides you through the game where there's nothing to EXAMINE no more.

DEmake 2 is just as insulting shit as RE7; maybe even more so, since it's pretending to be one of the best games of all time.

Because this incessant idea that we should replace the old games is kinda ass backwards. The original games had enough notoriety even to this day, meaning that the original games were considered so good that they'd want to remake them to ride the wave of that notoriety.

The remakes exist BECAUSE the originals were considered good. There's a reason you don't see them remaking shitty shovelware games. But they turn around and thanklessly throw shade on the originals.

I thought it was good up until you exit the police station, then it drops off a cliff in quality. It's like they spent most of their dev time on RPD, then rushed the rest of the game.

But the auto-balance difficulty is fucking retarded. Why does it exist and why can't I shut it off? Fuck you, let me attempt to conserve as many resources as possible by being accurate with my shots. Why is that punished? It's so stupid. I also hate that you almost cannot dodge zombies, you have to shoot them at least once to stun them.

Also very bizarre anachronisms that make me think the game was originally going to reboot it in "modern" times around 2008 or so. USB drive badge in 1998? What the hell? Laptops getting live camera feed over wifi? A 2018 IBM desktop with no floppy drive in the police office? Cars from the mid-2000's? Very weird.

Really good game. One of the best in the franchise and overall better than the original (which I played first).
It's a damn shame that Capcom hasn't made another game like it. Mainline is still first person and the remakes went full action. RE9 will probably be good but it will likely be like RE7 but bigger.
I would LOVE a mainline game with RE2make's design but more experimental and with a bigger budget.

>I thought it was good up until you exit the police station, then it drops off a cliff in quality.
To be fair that describes almost every RE game, including the original RE2.
I would go so far as to say that RE2make's sewers are still pretty good even if it's a sewer level and there's some arduous mechanics. The map is complex and I really like the chess pieces gimmick. Definitely a huge upgrade over the original's sewers. Also liked how it connected back to the police station. Lab could have been more complex but conceptually it's cool.

Pretty good, but they should have reduced the amount of ammo in the game by half, doubled the amount of damage they do globally, and made leon and claire's aim get worse as the game goes on to simulate their fatigue and injuries. I’m an old enough to have played the original when it released. It was actually my first PS1 game. Played through and beat it dozens of times. Got the remake because I had been interested in the trailers and also footage of the gore mechanics they added. The truth is that it’s not a bad game, but they skimped out on stuff that I thought was pretty essential. For starters, making the B scenarios essentially the same with nothing new added. Secondly, they cut a lot of the areas in the original game like the marshaling yard, the secret room in the lab, etc. Speaking of the lab, I fucking HATED the remake’s take on the lab. It wasn’t scary at all and I just felt like I was running through an office building in Left 4 Dead. Very generic and soulless. The plant zombies were a disappointment too and I cannot fathom why they weren’t able to make an updated version of the original plant monsters. All that being said, they at least got the police station right, they managed to make the sewers slightly more interesting (but still a slog). Having Mr. X chase you around was way more interesting than just having him have scripted appearances (which they would later do in RE3 remake, kek). Oh and Claire is still as fuckable as she was in the OG.

Great game, really wish they had made a real DLC that added in some manner of NG+ or NG mode with a few added areas alongside some of the older enemies that got clipped, perhaps even remixing some of the original placements of enemies to make it feel like a newer experience.

Never been a fan of the meme "time trial" type of antics they did but it really is one of those perfect games where it takes you like 12 hours careful first clear than you drop it to like 4 or less.

I liked it as much as the original, they do not overwrite or cancel out. They coexist in harmony not making the other better or worse, just different gameplay experiences that are both great for different reasons.

That said, REmake 3 and 4 are undoubtedly shit but I blame Reddit and Social media. Crapcom simply smell the blood in the water and rushed both of them. ReMake 3 needs to be redone and Remake 4 is just worse than the original, which already had a HD version for starters.

RE2R was....alright. It was cool to see the police station in 3D glory. My issue was it was buried in darkness. The atmosphere of the original was destroyed. Per-rendered backgrounds meant having to have a static well-lit area for the player which was technically a "limitation", but it was also why the game felt so dreadful and spooky. I don't want dark and scary, I want a depressing, hopeless feeling.

So many remake rooms were just pitch black and required a flashlight. All the art buried in darkness. Or the swapping of color correction in areas was annoying. I just wanted the original lighting. There's something about a dimly-lit, but perfectly visible environment that isn't safe that really does it for me. That's why I love Dino Crisis 1 and 2 so much. They aren't dark, yet you feel the hopeless everywhere.

If I had gotten a 1:1 remake with updated graphics and minor expansions to the game it would've been 10/10 for both old fans and new ones. >My issue was it was buried in darkness. The atmosphere of the original was destroyed.
Everyone was soifacing over the re-release of the RE1 remake when this one went into development, so they just copied the same kind of aesthetic.

Which is why I dislike RE1 remake. I'm in the minority, but I didn't like it. It was spooky Halloween house instead of a depressing mansion hiding secrets. I understand why they did it, and it looks visually good, but I prefer the alternate atmosphere. I prefer atmosphere that feels uneasy. Being in a lit room and yet feeling hopeless and somewhat depressed. Almost as if the world you are in is dying. RE1/2/3 all did this with the Mansion/Police Department/Raccoon city respectfully.

Shame it's gone.

The GameCube version of RE1 is shit and washed out all the colors the Spencer Mansion had in the original, literal definition of soulless

To add pic related (DC2 upscaled)

CAPCOM was great at making even the middle of the day seem so hopeless. Dino Crisis 2, while I hated the change from DC1, I still enjoyed the atmosphere a lot. Pre-renders in the 90s really hit you. Love Parasite Eve 1/2 as well.

the novel take I've settled on is that re2make has flashes of brilliance but the design of the campaign and to an extent the particulars of execution mostly stifle it. the dynamic zombie crowd control pathing game doesn't really have much room to shine with the low hanging fruit one way chokepoints the game presents you with and the obligatory scripted horror set pieces.

Part of god tier series that did no wrong except black cock in mouth moment in RE3.

Only Mario and Zelda are Zelda because... uh anybody who thought stuffing a black cock down the throats of Peach or Zelda was let go. Capcom said, push it and see how the market responds. Not the brightest move at the company.

The sherry stuff was kinda meh, basically just screams, moans, and not being able to fight back is always boring in games
The sewer was annoying as hell.
The SFX in this game are pretty awesome

It'll never not be fucking stupid to me that these games actively discourage headshots by making zombies and fat spaniards somehow take 30 bullets to the head

Imagine Ubisoft doing something like this to black samurai in Assassin's Creed Japan. Not even China could take a hit like that. Only a mega series could survive such stupidity.

It was actually my favorite RE remake desu. I don't know why people hype up 4 so much, 2 had much better aesthetics.
