Magic has seemed questionable even on NG so far. Maybe I'm just not using the right spells, but the spear one you get early on has been the most useful by far for me. I've heard that there's a couple of really busted spells you can get at the end of the game though, maybe those will change my mind. Until then it's basically just a tool to help cheese out enemies at long range for me.

Magic falls off not even halfway into NG. You have to do a lot of gameplay gymnastics just do damage and keep your feather economy up when you can just be hitting them with your weapon. Unless you are really good at dodging and want to delay fights much much longer than you'd like, using tempered weapons just far outclasses magic.

By virtue of elimination, the underground chamber door definitely leads to something important while you had three doors at the palace. One door cannot be interacted so that leaves you two doors. No, I didn't. I expected there to be something else above in the palace, possibly with a shrine near to the boss room up there, I was not expecting the grand palace to be as small as it was, even with the treasure room beneath the elevator there. It's not like the game doesn't have plenty of emptyish stretches that aren't boss runbacks either.
Call it a skill issue or whatever, but grabbing the wedding dress and being tasked by the butler to deliver it to the chick at the palace, followed by being told by the NPC that wedding guests (and as I have been tasked by someone in the chick's direct retain to deliver the dress for the wedding I figured I qualified) should follow the side path, and surprise surprise you triggered the boss of the area still feels retarded to me. I still like the game overall, but it really does like to try to fuck people over with gotcha moments, being able to accidentally "skip" most of Chapter 2 outright also comes to mind.

I've been wanting to try out this game even though I'm not completely sold on it desu. How tough is the game in general, in comparison to other souls games? I recently finished my backlog with AI limit and the fights in that were way too ez.

The game itself wasn't that difficult, i personally had the most problems with the end of act 1 boss, you will probably struggle on a couple bosses and others will get one shot. Its just fine difficulty wise imo.
HOWEVER
A lot of my dead, and by all reports of other anon's happened while getting up. You basically had no protection while recovering and would often get pummeled by the rest of the boss' combo that sent you to the ground on the first place. Made it feel a bit unfair.
The latest patch has eased the difficulty of the game all over just by adding some protection while getting up (im assuming as just iframes) and speeding up the healing animation of the flask.

Frankly i think it was ok before and i think it will be a bit on the easy side now, but i wont know until the dlc, im not reinstalling for this patch

1.4 / 1.4.1 were minor patches to fix a problem introduced with 1.3 for some gpus
