The rental system was gay but the wall merging mechanic was very well realized. I liked how there weren't designated wall merging streets or anything you could just do that anywhere to see what you could access in that state.

Not that anon, but Hero mode was harder in this game than the others. It's easy to die in an ALTTP, top-down style game when enemies do 4x damage cause all they have to do is touch you. Especially if you played it like I did by importing a save file so it was a blind Hero mode run. Not super hard or anything but it's not baby mode like most modern Zelda stuff.

I agree that was an issue with the system but at least the upgrades were fun (the mais were actually reasonable to collect, unlike the golden turds) and the sand rod had to be acquired.
Could have been refined in a sequel for sure. Shame we never got one. I did not care for Echoes of Wisdom, Nintendo should not have let a remaster studio make a new Zelda.

It was 60 FPS and had fun boss fights.

It's a fairly competently made game, but its design structure differs heavily from the Zelda standard as almost all major items are accessible immediately from a central shop rather than being dungeon rewards given in a set order. Also, it cannot be overstated the degree to which this game is a reiteration of A Link to the Past and can be difficult to parse if you haven't already played it.

I don't think it's that amazing a game because the vibe is off. It does feel amazing in some ways how it recaptures the ALttP feeling, but it's muddled by not taking itself seriously enough and sometimes the 3D look is just fucking ugly to me.
But it does have some awesome gameplay surprises and particularly the fights with Yuga and the final boss are pretty darn cool.
It puts BotW to shame in a lot of ways in that it manages to streamline the Zelda "flow" without un-Zeldafying it. But ultimately BotW does feel more bold to me, because it managed to simply ask "What if the environment itself is the whole game's appeal?" and really just let it speak for itself rather than trying to cram it with features.

I still talk about ALBW. It was a really good game. Top half of the series for sure. Better than ALttP by a wide margin. Still not as peak as Zelda 1 or 2 though. I’d say it’s on equal footing with BotW. Maybe a half-tier below OoT.

That's how I am with the 3D zeldas. To me that are very hit or miss. The top down zeldas though I found them all to be fun, even Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks were fun despite the terrible stylus and mic mechanics.

I found most of the bosses to be alright. They are all super easy but that's just the nature of the game itself sadly (and the general approach Nintendo has with all their games now). My biggest gripe with the game was the endless yapping, and for being an open world style game it's really not that open because a lot is story gated which leads back to the fucking yapping. If there is one thing Zelda games never ever should have, it's unskippable excessive yapping. And EoW is fucking full of it and I hate it. I don't mind that it's easy. I don't mind that there are easily obtained blocks/creatures that completely trivialise everything if that's your thing. But I do mind being interrupted repeatedly just for stupid dialogue or unnecessary cutscene that easily could've been done with a "show, don't tell" approach without interrupting the player like most older Zelda games did.
