Video game RPGs are solitary experiences so you get more into the game by having characters call the MC on-screen by your name.

You are playing yourself as a Japanese high school student. You make the decisions and control how the game plays out.
You are not controlling Ren, a distinct character with a personality. That's a character in the non-RPG adaptations.

I think you have both missed the purpose of the game explicitly asking you for "your name" and presenting you with a completely blank name entry screen.

It's an invitation to put your name in, not an invitation to create your own original character like a tabletop RPG.
And even that's different from something like Final Fantasy where you are told "this character is Cloud, but you may rename him if you wish."

Devs make these choices for reason...
