You will actually absorb most of the lore from the official works, and the fan works were actually approved by zun directly to do whatever, be whatever and even proffit if you're not a company
In the games you'll learn that [new character] arrived with a tiny bit of lore and reimu and co. painted the floor red with them, afterwards they all get drunk, zun never did anything with his ip, hence why its on decay, every game has at best like small 2 paragraphs of the same lore for each route
w40k the lore is the setting, you NEED to read some HARD to get books to even know what the story is about and even then you will miss a lot of important events because they are buried within books that they no longer even sell,worse even, in most of the cases everyone is lying, hallucinating or reality is wrong somehow, unironically watching a summary is the most realistic way to learn about it, the digital games per se are new in the IP, since it was all about the table top game with the minis

Still for a place as hostile as 4chan for example i would find off for many people to come here to larp to feel good about themselves, manage to do it and actually come back
