there will be no course correction for this AAA shit. video games are not made to be sold to you. video games are made to take 10 years to make so everyone working on it can get a decade of salary while you, the consumer, jump between shitty jobs that whole time. The leadership gets all this investor and grant money to pay those salaries with. The game will sell a certain amount to a certain subset of absolutely braindead consumers with more money than sense, and if it doesn't sell to others and actually turn a profit, everything is written off, everyone moves to a new project, and the whole cycle begins anew.
Selling the game to people with enough brain cells to get mad about a shitty purchase is a total secondary goal, optional when everything is said and done. Sometimes so optional that a game can be refunded to anyone who asks, shuttered, and forgotten about before it's a month old
