I played this the other day, got to the Magitech factory and just gave up. I really want to get into JRPGs but so many just don't do it for me. Thanks for reading my blog.

Yeah, Terra’s whole arc is that she’s essentially a magical child soldier trying to claw her way back into humanity after being used as a weapon her whole life. That convo with Celes is less about romance and more her desperately searching for some kind of mirror to understand if she’s even capable of love, like... in any form. Not just romantic. And Celes is too emotionally constipated to help. It's tragic, really.

Exactly. Terra's not asking "can I get a boyfriend?" - she's straight up asking if there's anything human left in her at all. She spent her early life as an empire-trained nuke, mind-slaved, never knowing what feelings are hers. When she sees people around her caring for each other, she doesn't understand it, so when she asks "what is love," it's a genuine existential question, not a punchline. Her trauma runs so deep that she can't even identify something as basic and universal as love - it's some of the most subtle and heartbreaking writing in the game.
