I'm actually not complaining in the slightest.
While I played the game with the JP dub myself I thought the English voice acting was more or less fine. The English VA, Jenny Kidd, also did all the songs for the game.

Also, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't at least slightly biased. Considering she's a totally normal person, has been married with kids for over a decade, and isn't a crazy leftist.

Obviously its a different gig than VA but I looked up what a newly hired translator earns at NoE and it's less than I do. Something like 3.600 euro. Some senior management woman from Japan on the other hand gets paid like 16k.

That's the regular american voice actors. The japanese voice actors who actually manage to earn huge fees are actual entertainers, celebrities who have secured a fan circle who will consume anything with their voice on it, as such they get paid that much because they can actually make a brand more popular in Japan, actively a reason for its success, unlike the regular american voice actor who doesn't contribute to much.

Nintendo is probably actively looking for non-union talent so they don't have to deal with all the bullshit. This is notably one of the first fully voice acted characters they've done in one of their own games. Note - I'm referring to Nintendo EPD so no Fire Emblem or Xenoblade.

Nintendo has been very cheap with voice acting so I'm not surprised. Anyway she did a great job.

To be fair with TotK they basically had to reuse the BotW voice actors, so maybe it would have been better otherwise. They changed most of the Mario character voice actors and added a fully voiced character to DK so maybe we will see more focus on voice acting on the switch 2. Hard to say until we see more games.
