Autobattlers are cringe, there's nothing to talk about them, there's no gameplay so its super uninteresting. At least Autoshooters have gameplay. Autobattlers never make the thing that makes management games good, stat rising, equipment management and other excel-sheet jerk-off material that only Germans could get into.

When I first heard about final fantasy and atb I really did think it was exactly what I wanted but it turns out it's basically just turn based with a caveat.

Yokai watch is closer to what I want out of an auto battler RPG but it's a pokemon clone first and I'm not into that as much. Great games though

The problem is there are a ton of them which are shit just like there are a ton of standard JRPGs where you can easily get through 99% of combat encounters just by repeatedly spamming basic attacks and throwing out a heal when needed(honestly these days that applies to a lot more than JRPGs.)

Braindead shit is still shit regardless of the exact genre. There are a handful of good games designed around automatic battles but a majority are just Cookie Clicker tier dopamine injectors.

I see it as a divide between focus on builds vs tactical gameplay. I'm not autistic enough to derive enjoyment from minmaxing builds that melt enemies so autobattlers and FF12 do nothing for me

It is definitely NOT like Unicorn game. It's a rougelite where you have to build a world that can slowly make the protag strong enough to face more powerful threats. I guess it's similar in the fact that once a battle starts you don't have control and have to rely on how you built the protag before the fight though. Presentation also isn't as good as uo but it's an indie so that's kinda to be expected
