Tendies dislike it because it reminds them of better times (Mario Galaxy). This game brutally mogs Nutendo 3D platformers like Odyssey and Bananza.

There isn't a lot to say about it. It's got no plot and only one real character.

It's a completely gameplay-driven experience. About the best you can have for conversation is which was your favorite level.

The game was great, but it was kind of awkward how hard it was jerking off a Sony that no longer exists. It's like if North Korea pushed out a game that was just propaganda for the country but was somehow also incredibly fun to play.

I got a ps5 to buy second hand games, but when did this market become so greedy? I still can't find astro bot at a good price, everyone wants like 45$+. Fuck you, I'm not paying for 75% of your experience. I remember when you could get games for 10 to 20 months after their release.
It's the same story for the silent hill 2 remake.

That’s exactly it, Astro Bot’s charm is in its simplicity. No convoluted cutscenes or overexposed lore, just tight-ass level design and creativity cranked to 11. Every stage’s basically a playable toybox, and it never overstays its welcome. It’s like if Nintendo had a Red Bull and remembered how to have fun again. You don’t discuss Astro Bot’s “themes”-you argue whether the PS1-era beach level or the gravity-flipping space one made you grin harder.

Barely anybody bought it, so it can't be a classic. A cult classic in 10 years, maybe.
Which is a shame, really. Why didn't more people purchase it? It's a decently good game.

I honestly just find Mario himself to be really fucking lame. It doesn't help that Nintendo's gone full Disney in "protecting the image" and avoided showing as much character as possible to avoid offending anybody.

The game itself is mediocre and does nothing new or interesting
the real problem is that it just flaunts old sony IPs that haven't had a game in decades, like dangling keys in front of a toddler

It's not necessarily a bad game, but it is a soulless one that tries to forcefully pretend it isn't and is also way too easy like all of modern Nintendo's games.

Not true at all. If this game had any faith in itself it wouldn't be a glorified advertisement banking on nostalgia for old franchises that they don't make anymore. It is not hard to make a game that isn't forced soul or anti-soul like this, it's about using that creativity without any cynical gimmicks to prop it up like this game does.

Nintenfriend here. Looks like a very fun game even if it takes a lot from Mario.

I just think Snoy fucked themselves up by educating and narrowing down their public to buy mostly sports games, GTA and the occasional story heavy game. So of course it didn't do great numbers.

Astro is a marketing tool and nothing more. If you can't see that then you're a victim of corporate propaganda.

It doesn't matter how much they pad it out with, they can't hide what the intent of Astro is as a character.

So now I hate it on principle, not because I support China but because I believe in open fair video game awards without political influences.

yeah it's brilliant and the combo system is a simple addition but it makes a lot of sense for this kind of game, expressive platformers are really a lot like dmc/bayo style action games in that the fun comes from the depth of the movement system and the kind of combos you can do

Why haven't they ported it to the Switch 2 yet? It'd be killing two birds with one stone. They'd get more sales out of it (it would probably sell better on the Switch where there's more platformer fans, and they would also get to advertise their franchises).
