The times are moving too fast. The older GTAs had the luxury of a slower news, meme and pop culture cycles. San Andreas, IV and V especially hit time critical satire.

VI will miss by long shot and feel like a poorly aged soutpark episode where the subject matter is irrelevant already.

Of course they were slower. Memes especially stayed way longer in the public conciousness.
And pop culture too.
Today when a new TV-show releases, everyone binges it on a weekend or watches something else because of personalised algorithms.
In the 90s/early 2000s everyone was more or less watching the same few shows weekly and everyone had a week to talk about one single episode.
Old memes like Rage comics and advice animals stayed relevant for several years while most memes today cycle out after weeks.

I've legitimately been wandering this since we found out development started when rdr2 released so like seven years ago. Scripts are the first things done and GTA likes to include jokes and jabs at pop culture so I can help but wonder how much the comedy aspects of the game are going to be dated as fuck and fall flat

Remember, the online mode ruined the possibility of GTA V with a DLC with San Fierro and Las Venturas inclusion.

GTA felt dated when 4 came out. By that point other companies were taking the open world concept in interesting new directions.

I promise you the 2023 version of the game did not have any slurs in it, and the final game is 100% going to have Jason call people "Retarded" since it's the approved edgy slur now.
