according to a quick search, it sold 1.4 million by the end of june, no update about july though so probably a lot less. the first one sold more on Steam than PS4 when it came out, Sony is so fucking stupid - they say they aren't making enough money on console sales (because ps5 owners don't play games) but then make sure people have to wait a year or more for the game PC players actually want the most. Same fucking thing happened to Stellar Blade, which was their best performing game ever. I dont think this will beat that (nowhere near enough coom) but it should do well

You should absolutely beat the first game before the second, if you can stomach it. My advice to you is don't make the same mistake i did in my first run: do NOT try to get every settlement to 5 stars as you go on. Just fucking plow through the story until you get across the first major break in the game, you then get stuff that really helps your mobility and you can go back when its all over to max people out if you really feel like it.
I dropped the first game about 70% of the way through on launch because i burned myself out trying to do everything. It wasn't until last year that i started over and beat it all in one shot, and it was worth it

I enjoyed it until i really didn't. By the time i got to Heartman the game was just not fun anymore, and i dropped it and didn't touch it for actual years. Interesting enough, i saw someone in a DS2 thread recently who said he got to the mountain area of that game, and also lost interest and stopped playing. The mountains break people, as they have throughout history
I haven't played in a few days but i'm still slowly 5 starring everyone in the second game, its a lot more relaxed since i'm already done and the roads/monorails are all built

Don't know, I hit 500 pieces (maximum amount for a single locker with the biggest amount of storage, not all lockers have this amount) of cargo in the Magellan pretty early on and just started dumping my stuff in each facility, occasionally using online structures to store my stuff.
Was a real hassle checking all the only online private lockers. I was not going to count it. I just donated most of the materials away to make room
I even started to maximize space by turning a 400 unit metal cargo into a 750 one early on, so my lockers were filled to the brim with materials.

glad to see another autist actually playing death stranding 2 the way its meant to be played. i do all this stuff too and i definitely maxed out materials on hand for Magellan and distro centers but i never even came close to the private locker notice. its all mats??

question for the trve DS heads ITT. what do you think about the lowered friction to killing in this one? the fact is they give you a portable incinerator and live-fire-only rocket launchers not too long after this. very different than the first one where i would sometimes have to reload as a result of an accidental kill.

ive also noticed that "strategic culling" of some of the bandit base populations is virtually a necessity unless you for some reason want to be stuck routing around their bases or do a protracted stealth clear every single time you pass them. outright killing, say, 7 out of an 18-man base leaves their numbers permanently low, can in some cases permanently stop the truck patrols, and can remove look out tower guys from play. on the other hand, though, it seems like total bandit genocide is NOT the way to go, if you murder every guy in a base they will respawn first at half and then very quickly raise threat level back to full population or even higher count. there are of course some story-triggered threat escalations that resets and even increases the total enemy count, that you cant avoid even if you're controlling the bandit population like ive described above.

There were maybe a total of 30 weapons and tools in all lockers, because putting them all in the lockers made the lockers too unwieldy, I hit the cap of Magellan that way and started recycling all weapons and tools from shared lockers.
Hit the cap of Magellan AGAIN.
started mushing materials into each other (400 and 350 metal turns into 1 cargo unit, saving space), so yes. All my lockers across all of Mexico and Australia were filled with 900 special alloy, 450 chemical, 600 ceramics, 600 resin and 750 metal containers. I had no idea what to do with them, so I just started sharing them with others, (you can even bigger containers by doing some weird shit, make 799 metal containers for example, because if a facility has a weird limit on metal and you recycle 400 metals into a facility that can only hold 351, you get a container with 49 metalback, you auto-arrange a 750 on your back with a 49 and will get a 799 container

Now I do, I was hoarding at them first for, I don't even know why. It was fun.
You know how you can minimize stuff in your private locker? Tools, weapons, materials, right? You know you've reached insanity when you minimize 4 of those material ones and all of them are the same material. Metal was the biggest amount, because the vehicles gives you a lot for recycling them.
The vehicles in the online garage respawn rather quickly. I would do my routine like this
>check shared locker, entrust cargo of facilities that I already have at 5 stars, keep those below 5 stars put those in my truck, recycle 4 vehicles in the online garage. Take a nap, shower (to get the crystals), check shared locker and online garage again, most of the time stuff appears again, but not always.
Start a standard order,
walk 5 feet, turn back (online garage full again) recycle it, get on my truck and deliver the lost cargo and standard order

I killed one person in my entire playthrough, and it was an accident in the postgame. I was amazed at how easy it was to get rid of the body with the coffin, its like theres no penalty for killing at all anymore. I definitely didn't know about enemy spawn numbers being permanently limited if you kill some of them, i'm tempted to do it but delivering through those areas, or just going around is so simple that i dont think i need to kill anyone to make the game any easier

>sam needs to lose like 600-900 mL of blood if he gets shot by live fire, getting lit up by a guy with full auto AR and losing like 200 mL feels whack,

now i know that just stacking blood bags won't protect your S-rank if you lose more than 1000 mL on combat missions, but it should be easier to hit 100 % damage in a truly "brutal" difficulty. like, having blood bags shouldnt be a get-out-of-jail free like it is currently. as is, sam gets lit up, loses 200 mL, and instantly gets transfused back to full health. transfuse should take longer, bullets should cause more damage, etc.

im not sure they should be for DS2. it's not thematic anymore for the world to have BTs be these scary ghosts you're avoiding at all costs. the Beach has been industrialized, Sam is not afraid of BTs but he's actually a BT hunter in DS2. ever try using the mousepad shouts when BTs are around? he goads them to attack.

as far as difficulty goes, i would like to at least try fighting giant BTs where their attacks oneshot Sam and cause an instant voidout. like, sam should not survive getting clawed or hit by the laser from the dog BT, and fucking up a BT encounter should permanently fuck up the map unless you reload all the way back to most recent private room

now this could incentivize people to abuse private room but i presume most players already do to get the fifth stamina bar up as often as possible

OH and how could i forget, magellan travel should cost a significant amount of mats! this was a major oversight in my view

>as a result, the recipient of the cargo evaluates you with Magellan Rank - signifying that the cargo was fine but it had tar all over it.

but on the other hand

>porters arent supposed to kill, killing is bad, killing risks voidouts
>sam has no penalty for killing and gets a portable incinerator to facilitate quick and easy corpse disposal

in addition, note the following plot details

>in DS1 you get walking robots that can automate deliveries
>but robot deliveries rarely get higher than B-rank - the robots fuck up the cargo
>in DS2 APAS 4000 directs autobots to deliver to the entire UCA, ending the porter way of life and forcing everyone to stay in shelter forever
>the inferiority of the system is built into the gameplay: by accepting automation and "skipping gameplay" UCA swallows b-rank cargo

so when you are "automating" your DS2 gameplay by using the Magellan to m-rank all the deliveries, you're essentially letting APAC win

this used to be called ludonarrative harmony

it's called a loss leader. sony props him up because he authenticates sony as serious triple a publisher. this provides the cover for their real profit center: unreal slop dumped on the ps store from india.

personally i love both games so i dont give a fuck either way, but thats why kojima is where he is. he has perfected the flashy movie game that sony needs for their market strategy. whether that part of the strategy is profitable is not of consideration to the strategy, because the other, profitable parts make up for any associated losses.

yeah, i mean you're clearly "not supposed" to explore this part of the game because dollman scolds you basically every third murder. but there's nothing to stop Sam easily racking up a personal kill count in the 100s or even 1000s in DS2, whereas such a feat would be a titanically autistic time-sink in DS1. mind you, Sam can do this with the often explicit sanction of Tarman and the others, because you eventually get a hold of lethal artillery that nobody will think twice if Sam aims it at 20 bandits and kills them all instantly.

and there's even more: Tar Therapist's ONE STAR reward is golden hunter artillery from the Magellan that rains humanoid BTs from the sky who grapple and instantly drown human enemies in tar - i mean this is tech that has no other purpose than industrialized survivalist genocide and Tarman has no trouble firing it off at will as long as sam has the mats in store lol.

The ideas might be reaching for complexity, but how its communicated through the language of the game, voice and text, is not up to any standard I can take seriously. So much of the game is talking too.

I loved ds1 but ds2 was a big disappointment.

The problem is the game gives you endless guns and tools immediately that you never need. There's no need to prepare for anything. There are only 2 or 3 deliverys in the whole game where you need a ladder. You maybe only need an anchor twice. I even did the vog crate mission in the snow with no gear and no container spray and it only meant I spent 15 seconds twice away from it to regain health. You get rubber bullet assault rifles immediately. Cars can be driven up to the top of the mountain and don't even need to be upgraded. There's also no cost to making tools when you need them and even if you ran out of materials the online is so overtuned that you are given any structure or item in exactly the perfect place. I didn't even build my own car until post game. Seriously this game needs to be played off line. There are maybe 2 forced BT sections in the entire game but they are even easier than ds1.

The story also isn't as interesting and where you have battles in ds1 that do the whole mgs4/1 Kino final boss it was like cool kojima is back but then he does it again a few years later and it's like dude we get it you've done this 3 times now.

Simply put its a sequel that didn't need to be made. DS1 was divisive but had a strong support from its fans but 2 had nothing to really say or do. In fact 2 is Kojima getting cold feet and making something more palatable to the masses with more action and easier transportation. Writing aside, this game is easily Kojima's safest and most unambitious title yet. Its a copy of the first game but more action orientated but worse gameplay in every regard. Why? Its too streamlined and casualized from the original where the gameplay now consist almost entirely of driving to your goal since terrain/enemies are an absolute non-factor. No seriously in Mexico you will never encounter any BTs or Mules, you have to go out your way to find them. This is in stark contrast to DS1 where there were a few times you had to go through rough terrain or enemy territory.
>inb4 DS1 was also easy

ds2 isnt about bts anymore. its a different game, get over it. if australia were just as desolate and haunted as uca you'd say ugh, what a hack, he's done more of the same. never satisfied, never present, never playing. always just judging and criticizing and thinking. sitting from some remove where you're more fit to order and rank things so many more times your magnitude. stupid little people thinking stupid little thoughts.

they streamlined the shit out this even compared to the first game, everything is brain dead and easy, terrain is flat and boring. Weather events don't do anything and don't even show up barring a few scripted segments.
kojima wanted the retard audience, no one told him retards don't play games like this. They're giving $100 for the privilege to play in a BF6 beta so one million cheaters can rake them over the coals.

Death stranding 2 is the same as all these open world games. Being a pretentious fag does nothing to change or help with that. Kojima even tried making more appealing by shoehorning more cameos and even a big vtuber but nobody cares.

This is what’s so great about Death Stranding for me. It’s like a high budget indie game. It’s a labor of love made by people who just want to make whatever they think is cool and fun. So many games nowadays are just blatant cash grabs or just outright pandering and/or propaganda. At least Kojima tries to be original for one

because my argument is more valid than theirs: that in DS1 it is actually a plot point that Bridges/UCA didn't have any reliable anti-BT tech until scientists get the opportunity to research and battle test applications from Sam's blood. Bridges 1 was only possible because amelie could detect and avoid BTs completely, and at the beginning of Death Stranding, Sam is in the same exact boat.

so what? in Death Stranding 2 you have to wait for all the advanced anti-BT tech? no, this game is actually different because Sam made a difference in the first one. now you have anti-BT stuff at your disposal. they're not scary anymore.

I just finished the game last night and I'm not sure if it was intentional but the way everything is explained in this game, in addition to the way the chiral network works, made the afterlife just as mundane as normal life. Death Stranding's world is horrifying to me in a meta sense and by the end of the game Higgs was 100% right. Humanity has ruined the afterlife in Death Stranding and perverted it for their own purposes. Humanity deserves to go extinct, not be forced to wageslave even after they die.

Death Stranding is intentionally designed to appeal to a particular type of person. There’s not a lot of them but the few that are there greatly enjoy the game. Listen to them talk about the game, they connect with this game on a deep and emotional level. Other people see this and they get angry. Its not enough that the game simply doesn’t appeal to them, they HAVE TO actively hate it and throw insults at its fans and Kojima
