Each has several animals to play as that you can swap between (like DK64) and you can progress the levels in a variety of ways based on which animal you pick for a guven task. Some animals would have different strengths and some areas/objectives are only possible to be completed by certain animals. Once you beat a level, you can play it in freeplay (like the lego games) and swap between any unlocked animals from other times/regions. Like, there could be a city level with a dog, racoon, pigeon, and rat. But if you beat the prehistoric level and the city level, you can then enter the coty level in freeplay and play a sabretooth tiger or a dinosaur.

well yes because they were younger bears and this pretty much happens to every single large apex predator around the world. Tigers will eat young/injured brown/polar bears, saltwater crocs will eat young/ambushed tigers, Jaguars will kill young/ambushed/injured anacondas etc etc. The only animal that's essentially immune to this rule is the orca because they live in groups and will preemptively murder anything that they think will hurt the young
