What do you think about this? I'm not saying this is the greatest thing since sliced bread, or that you need to abandon your traditional controller, but imagine you just don't have any other option for a controller for just a moment.

Sure the concept is goofy and the layout seems arbitrary, but I'm sure it makes sense if you try it. If you think the execution of this idea sucks, then what would you do differently?

drop the right stick emulation and add a wii nunchuck or joycon (or similar single handed controller with a stick)

What is the point of the microscopic OLED in the corner
Anonymous No.718003123
This is just a hitbox layout with dumb stuff stapled to it like trying to force an analog control stick to be digital and putting bumpers/triggers in arbitrary placements.
This only would work with purely digital inputs. Trying to put analog on it is stupid, you might as well try to make the stupid thing support gyro.

I use a leverless controller for fighting games, because it feels the most natural to me, but I genuinely can't imagine using a leverless controller on any other kind of game. You'd be better off using a keyboard without a mouse at that point.

This looks like a controller version of an eldritch abomination

The screens on leverless controllers generally just show which inputs are being taken in and give you some information about what modes the controller is on. No idea why it would need to be OLED in this case.

You're not a real gamer if you don't have a small oled screen you don't ever look at.

Why are there two B buttons

I just don't like traditional controllers and analog sticks, personally

>>718003382
Good question. Generally first party Nintendo games will have you holding your controller with your thumb resting on A+B or Y+B. The top and second row simulates both of these positions separately.

Additionally, it also serves to allow access to all face buttons in conjunction with the R bumper, pressed with your ring finger. In this case you would press A with your middle finger, B with your pointer, and Y and X with your thumb.

To mirror this with the ZR trigger, which you would press with your thumb, while pressing Y and X with your pointer, then YBA respectively with your other fingers.

The main problem is games that use the stick for movement but have actions on the d-pad. Having to toggle constantly isn't particularly viable for soulslikes, among other things. Having two more buttons, or at least putting the two most used directions on the duplicate A/B buttons, would fix that.
Games that utilize the full analog range of a stick will be problematic as well, obviously.

They're taking the longest road all the way around to reinventing the keyboard.

its an actual controller so you can have it in your lap or on the desk, it has fewer buttons that can be bigger, usable for fighting games, just a nice feel, usable on consoles.
Haute42 controllers are pretty cheap and are basically this

Eh I could see it being useful for any 2d side scrolling game. But why exactly would a keyboard be better in those scenarios over a leverless but not in a fighting game scenario? Beyond the overall easier and cheaper to access benefit that keyboards have.

How about adding even more keys and structure em in a easy way to find? 101 keys is probably enough for any game
