undervolting isnt really about power savings, in ideal conditions you're using the same power draw, you're just getting more performance.

Unlike overclocking in the old days where you just manually increase speed and voltage, these days everything is run off performance/boost algorithms. They are set to attempt to deliver certain speeds at set voltages and heat thresholds. When you undervolt a gpu/cpu you're showing the algorithm that it can achieve the same level of performance at a lower power threshold (which usually means lower temps as well), so it will then shift its whole curve downwards leading to higher speed when it boosts up to higher voltages. For example, say the computer things you can go 4ghz at 1.2v and 5ghz at 1.4v. You undervolt it and show it, hey you can actually hit 4ghz at 1.0v, now it will attempt to hit 5ghz at 1.2v and maybe you can get 6ghz at 1.4v. The end result is youre still running the cpu at 1.4v when going full speed, but you're just getting more performance out of it. If you dont need max speed though then yea it will tend to run a bit on the cooler side because its hitting its target speeds but generating less heat due to less power draw. Really depends on your performance profiles.

thats more down to the individual chip. you can only push something so far before it becomes unstable and the boost algorithm has ways of determining that. If it determines it can only hit 240w instead of 285w before it starts to become unstable, then yea you will see some less draw - but thats why i said in ideal conditions. When you are working with higher end chips like 80/90 series or ryzen 9 cpus you will usually end up much closer to your max power draw under load.

Again though, the whole point of undervolting isnt specifically power savings/heat savings (unless you're working with sff or some other niche usecase), its generally about trying to get the chips to perform better and the less power draw is an added benefit some people see.

I know for a fact you guys are just baiting
Everyone knows the vast majority of people in Europe (especially Western Europe) are insanely wealthy
You guys all come from old money, tons of estates and mansions and castles
Paris is lined with incredibly expensive and fashionable apartments, boutiques, restaurants
You enjoy rich hobbies like polo and water sports
There’s a reason why butlers and maids in media always have English accents
You guys are fucking full of it and you need to stop gaslighting the world into thinking you’re poor or disenfranchised
Americans WISH they could be half as wealthy as a typical Englishman
>no no that’s all just false or very specific fiction
Ok so why do your countries have literal castles? Why do manners and etiquette originate from your cultures? Why do you still have royal families?

What isn't okay with the heat is me. I wake up every day drenched in sweat no matter what I do.
Fans, timed AC, indoor plants that are supposed to help with ventilation, opening windows specifically to let the breeze in, dressing lightly, dressing in my undies, going commando, getting a supposed cooling memory foam pillow, having cool water in a thermos next to me, nothing worked and it's fucking awful.
Anonymous No.718010204 >>718010535
I'm sure an actual computer hardware engineer can chime in but yes operating your PC in a hot enviroment makes it harder for your pc to cool itself so the cooling components have to work harder aka break down faster not to mention your cpu and gpu are operating a higher temps than normal which of course leads it faster breakdown of those parts as well.

Blame them being pure shit efficiency until 15 years ago. Basically every figure of authority in a modern family believes they will destroy the energy bill. It took me a lot to explain to my granny how a new fridge would literally pay for itself in savings compared to her old shit.

Trying to explain to a boomer how no, leaving the lights on when you have led bulbs or how leaving a fan on while you're out will not raise the electricity bill by $50/mo and wont even increase it by $50/yr if you were to leave those things running constantly.

We should test that in my house, I bought my mom a new AC last year to replace the one she has had since we moved to this house, and she either keeps it on for several hours from when she comes back home until she goes to sleep, or turns it off after 2 hours to save electricity, then turns it on again after another 2 hours. Granted, the bill is way cheaper than how it used to be with the previous one she had, as in a 30% reduction more or less, so we ended up saving a lot of money anyway.

Now I need to replace the one in the living room too because that one is also a 12 year old piece of shit at this point.

you ever tried explaining to her that shes wasting money doing that? basically its using max electricity to try to cool shit down after being turned off for a long time, whereas when its just maintaining a constant temp it doesnt have to work hard at all.

Best boomer friendly analogy i can try to give you is how have to run the stove at max to get water to boil, but once its boiling you can turn it down to low/medium-low and it will stay boiling indefinitely.

Your PC parts use a thing called AVFS. The amount of energy needed is variable to the load you give it. The load is tweakable by your settings. For example when you disable Vsync you tell the CPU and GPU to work as fast they can possibly could.

The primary parts of the computer that collect dust do not need to be disassembled to be cleaned.
Turn of your computer
Unplug it
Take it a ventilated room or even outside on the back porch
Take off computer's side panel
Use computer duster and spray out your fans, including GPU fans and heatsink fan (the cpu fan)

Cpu thermal paste can last for like four years. If you're concerned, just open up your computer, remove the heatsink, scrape the old paste off and replace with new thermal paste.
