That pretty much goes for many villains, Nintendo's even more so. Pic related not only had Link on the floor at the start of the game but also broke his Master Sword and decades before that wipe the floor with the Seven Sages . Only reason he didn't win was because he decided to regain his full power instead and busts before Link and Zelda away.
