It's rampant beyond belief because companies figured out that pay2play models can milk constant sales with banwaves that are completely ineffective from the customer's perspective, but advantageous for the aforementioned reason.

Zoomers have grown up in this environment and don't know an opposing norm.
I personally know a zoomer that played nothing but fortnite for 10 years, and was genuinely excellent, without a single reason to cheat, and could've made bank if he started streaming in his prime, but he'd still envy cheaters and thought it was the only way he could go pro.

EVERYONE is sick to fucking death of having the games they like turned into abstract mental torture devices because of that 1 in ~30 retard that cheats.
It's become a primary source of stress for a lot of casual FPS players.
Not only are you delaing with a community of high iq autists that sit in aimtrainers and have highly minmaxed setups giving them a 10-40ms hardware advantage, but you've also got to deal with what can sometimes be as bad a 1 in 10 player rate of cheating.

These games are simply not worth any amount of money, and the consumerbase for them is slowly coming to that same conclusion.
