Unless I can join a persistent, never shut down server that other people can easily identify by name and join as well, thus potentially creating a community of people who want to join that specific server... its no good.

That's good but I won't ever use it. I rather be paired with people with good ping, matches start with a full player set, and skill taken into account.

Server preferences must be kind of new at least. Cold War had the modes down and the maps option is a wise addition for bf6 too. You can practice on some then move on to even more, get the hang of the game's learning curve.

Even if these filters are incredibly powerful it still can't replicate the old server system because it was reliant on persistent servers which they've already confirmed aren't coming back (because it's too expensive for the >200 million dollar live service game).
It will still kick you back into matchmaking after every round, it can't put you through a full rotation of all the maps, it can't properly shuffle you between attackers and defenders in asymmetric modes, etc.

That kind f sucks, but more so if the matchmaking is slow.

I kind of suspect that they get rid of the server browser because when the game is 3-4 years old, they don't want you to be able to quickly jump into a game. It forces you to buy Battlefield 7 or whatever in 3 years.

have you no memory of conquest assault? where one side is the attackers with an uncappable base, assaulting the enemy who can lose every flag they have and thus the game because no players can spawn, and automatically lose via that victory condition?

Well the server browser lets you look for populated servers with a good ping.
It's not one or the other, though. You can still have an autoplay button that finds a server for you.

It lets you play whatever map and mode you want at any time, and paired with community servers you can have 24/7 [Map/Mode] servers or custom map rotations like infantry only maps or vehicle only maps.

Then, at least on the well managed servers, you have active admins to quickly ban cheaters/griefers/etc. and over time a community of regulars will form around particular servers. It's fun to build rivalries or just get to know people who frequent the same server.

For me it was (=eGO=) servers. Had a few other servers I hopped to depending on my mood in CS/BF2/2142 and other games, but they were consistently the best overall if you wanted good quality. Admins took obvious cheaters out back real quick usually

Having a server browser won't matter if the game still has always-online DRM that forces a connection to a central server and won't let you play without it

If it supports "private servers" but they stop working when EA shuts the game down then it may as well not have the feature to begin with. Conversely Even if the game doesn't have a server browser it could still support LAN play and i'd take that over a server browser that still has always online DRM

Because they want to have control over everything. They could just make it all community servers (and a few basic official ones), and then instead of a shitty anticheat they can just improve ways for servers to protect themselves from cheaters (give match telemetry to admins, etc). Dogshit overengineered anticheat is never going to be better than just playing in a server that you know the regulars aren't cheaters and admins quickly get rid of them if one joins

Been trying to go back and play BF4 and I can't. The servers in my region are empty and I'm forced to play on 200 ping but every server has a ping limit. Even when my local servers populate its filled with the biggest vehicle sweats. Hard to have a good time. I regret not buying BF1, BFV, BF3 and BFH for $2. I'm going to have to buy EA Play again
