This game is funny, but like most Brit games the “game” is usually just a vessel for telling jokes

This shit had like 0 actual gameplay: you just walk around and interact with things to see the funny

And yet every game that attempts to be comedic is at worst like a 7/10. Even High On Life, despite being a playable Reddit meme, still got quite a few chuckles out of me.

probably cause of how much work it takes to program/animate each joke.
This is why you see more comedy in VNs than other genres. You just have to write, draw some expressions, and give them common anime-style animations like sweating or frustrated puffs of smoke.

You can try to make the core gameplay itself comedy like QWOP but you're right. The comedy of playing something absurd like that goes away quickly and then just gameplay is the focus. Tough problem to solve.

only issue was there isnt a chapter select even though the game could have had that since they were broken up into episodes (idk maybe unlock it after beating the game the normal way, as in not beating the game by waiting in the mayors office )

Comedy is hard when you can’t control the timing of the jokes, which is why the only game to make comedy in games (outside of cutscenes) is TF2.

Some of the funniest games i've played are the SMT games, mostly because of how absurd some negotiations can go

No, there's plenty of comedy in video games. What fits your description better is simple, down-to-earth, interpersonal drama. Managing relations is largely incompatible with the imprecise way characters are usually controlled in video games, so things get dumbed down to choosing dialog options. The only game that comes to mind that tries to do something more interesting than that is Facade.

It's funny how the DLC didn't get a single laugh out of me after roiland was canceled. In fact, they added a new gun that was the best gun and also didn't really talk, so I wonder if it was intentional if they add a new gun that doesn't have dialogue, they wouldn't have to try to be funny.
