Why don't consoles go down in price as they age anymore?

They found out they don’t need to and people will just skip meals or other priorities to purchase one
It’s also the reason why PlayStation has diminished its definition and quantity of exclusives yet its selling as good as the PS4 did when it went all out with them

The rate of technological progress has slowed down.
PS1 for instance went down in price as CD drives got cheaper to produce, and as microchip tech improved so much they could turn a bunch of chips in the console into a single chip.
These days consoles only have one expensive chip in them anyways, the manufacturing processes are evolving so slowly that there's not enough time in a single console generation to get any improvements, and the disc drives which are still expensive are already as cheap to make as they'll ever get.
Add to this the rapidly declining global economy, uncertainty in the prices of globally shipped goods due to trade wars, supply chain shortages first during the pandemic and then later due to every high-end chip manufacture getting infinite money for making AI chips instead of game consoles.

More time is needed and consoles are simply more expensive to design and make than before.

Now it's made to squeeze the most amount of money and time from gullible morons

it was brick and mortar retail trying to reduce stock to bring in new products. this practice has largely stopped

Still there are online platforms that will fight over it
Anonymous No.718023943
it happened because larger retailers needed to compete with smaller retailers who put a huge value on shelf-space. ebay rendered smaller retailers obsolete, and larger retailers know if they put something small on sale, it'll just end up on ebay for the previous price.

evolution of the retail market selected out the practice. nothing else.

The business faggots running the game companies only care about the profit numbers going up, and they realized that the majority of normie retards will still buy the consoles, games, DLCs, paid online and whatever other bullshit they think of at full price without complaining. In fact, they'll even happily pre-order the more expensive deluxe/collector/whatever editions as soon as they go up.
Those same business faggots running the companies also realized that even in the group that bitches and whines about "muh prices" and "muh not consumer friendly" points, only a few people actually have enough impulse control to not buy the thing, while the others will make a lot of noise before launch but will still buy in the first weeks of the launch (with the most recent example being the Switch 2).
There are also the scalpers that take advantage of "collectors" with more money than brains and end up making old consoles and games go for hundreds of dollars.
>TL;DR: Companies are only "profit must go up" and know that most people will buy even at retarded prices. For old shit, blame scalpers and retarded "collectors" with more money than brains

anon the msrp didn't change for sega over time.

Exactly. Moore's Law flatlined, and now we're just brute-forcing performance gains at insane costs. Add in chip fabs prioritizing AI over gaming hardware, and console makers can't rely on cheaper manufacturing down the line like they used to. We're basically in the post-scarcity dream but with none of the benefits-just pricier plastic boxes and more silicon bottlenecks.

it has nothing to do with moore's law. the msrp for the sega genesis was the same for the entire time it was on the shelves.

This. No point in explaining this to little zoomies they are retards who cant remember anything after the PS4 generation. They also say every action game is a souls like.

Maybe, but you're still paying both. No worries, I'm sure Donnie will abolish income tax the say day he releases the Epstein files.
