i'm not a /v/ schizo and generally like the nuDoom games

however this is disingenuous in some cases because it conveniently omits how the game is DELIBERATELY DESIGNED around some buttons being pressed, and if you avoid pressing those buttons you are actively locking yourself out of a vital part of the gameplay loop

like yeah in nuDooms you can absolutely just unbind the grenade buttons and play without it, it's fine. but you can't really unbind glory kills in 2016/eternal because then you don't have access to health regain and the combat doesn't work without health regain

The new doom has a lot of retarded frame traps where you can't block or parry in time after shooting getting you killed. It makes the SSG pretty terrible to use with how a lot of encounters play out. Hugo Fartin intentionally made the most iconic weapon in the series worthless because he wanted to turn doom into sekiro.

the base game makes you glory kill if you want to blood punch though iirc and that's an important mechanic. I can't remember if you get "breaking a weak point gives blood punch charge" in main game or dlc

I don't know but I just remembered playing a really hard doom wad, and when on verge of tears due to my ironclad "pistol-start, no saves" rule, I scouted an odd strange looking wall that I wouldn't have found if I weren't so desperate, and inside it was a secret with a megasphere bringing me to 200/200 from 1% health. I'll never fucking forget it.

Glory kills on the other hand are a fundamental design issue that shift the entire game around them, that complaint can't be brushed off with a "Don't use them if you don't like them"
