BANDAI IS DITCHING UE/UNITY!!
> the company revealed that it had begun full-scale development of the new engine in 2019, with a re-boot happening in 2020. Assembling a team of over 50 engineers headed by former Ubisoft and Square Enix technical director Julien Mercenon as CTO, Bandai Namco Studios set out to build an engine capable of large-scale development, including open-world games.

Julien Merceron was behind MGSV's Fox engine. We're so back bros.

Not sure, some Bandai Namco games already used some kind of internal engine (the ones that they made for Nintendo so Smash bros, Pokken and I think Pokemon Snap).
This might have been an early fork of it.
But yeah you're probably right.

Given they tried to spawn that Metal Gear Survivor after Kojumba departure. I think Kojambles wasn't the only guy fired at that time, they lost the entire team that had know how on how to do games in general. After they noticed this issue went for the pachinko shit for a while. Now they decided once again to rebuild their gaming division with Silent Hill stuff.

When Kojima left, some key developpers followed him at Kojima Productions. Merceron quit out of respect since Kojima was the one who personally contacted him and gave him the lead graphics engineer role and went to Bamco.
And without the staff knowing how to use the engine, it's no use (see what happened with Forspoken when most of the Luminous Engine team dipped when Tabata was fired)

i wish too anon, but modern gaming have become and endless spam of temporal jobs of 3 years at most, when you cant retain a work forced there is no point of creating your in house engine even less teaching people how to use it, that’s why almost all westers studios are moving to EU5, because is easier to contract some person in Indonesia to do the work than to keep people with the experience necessary to use personal engines.

Because the engine team respected Kojimbo more than Keknami.

Keknami only used it for PES (and the "Metal Gear" Zombie game, that [Everyone Disliked That].jpg'd), and then went Unreal Engine Sloppa like everyone else.

Honestly, they should just give the Fox Engine to Kojimbo, out of respect for the amount of money he got them.

None of those engines have a single game of the quality of Death Stranding 2 or Horizon. The sheer quality of the lighting, materials, foliage and best of all, the performance. There is no engine with games that look anywhere near as good as anything made on Decima and let alone running at solid 60fps on console-tier hardware. The one that Taleworlds uses for Bonerlord. The game still sucks ass but no one else can render that many units onscreen from the ground level like they can. With a strong enough battle potato you can have two forces circle strafing each other numbering in the tens of thousands while still being capable of not eating shit or tripping up on their own feet. >WHY do developers use it if if clearly has that issue
Because most studios don't have enough money to also have a dedicated Game Engine engineer team. Not only that but if you allow your gameplay programmers to work on the Engine to begin with, then your game isn't getting made.
Gameplay Programming and Engine programming are two different things, and by outsourcing the Engine part to another team (like UE or Unity) you can pretty much bypass a large chunk of your problems and handle them to someone else.

I'm not saying it should be this way but, this is what you get with a hyper competitive market that is afraid to be left behind.

Honestly this same shit happened with Halo's Blam engine, which continued on not only to Infinite despite the Slipspace rebranding, but Destiny all the way through to Marathon. Most of the talent that knew Blam left 343 so all those new contractor hires stuck on for 18 months had to learn a proprietary engine from the ground up, understand other people's bullshit in using it, then get rotated out for repeating the process. It's not much wonder amidst their rebranding that they swapped out for Unreal Engine 5.

Meanwhile whatever the fuck is happening to Bungie's murder now with being maimed into a support studio likely inclines that whatever talent left with their branch of the engine isn't going to be sticking around much longer either at this rate, so I simply can't imagine much new stuff continuing for long, or Marathon getting back up off the ground after that disaster, not without a severe mutilation. Proprietary engines are an absolute nightmare risk in today's day and age with so many publicly accessible engines, and the potential brain drain that can leave projects floundering about.

Players basically get to mod and fix their game however they want.
It's much better than the lazy devs doing nothing and telling you to deal with it every fucking time something goes wrong.
Poeple saying custom engines are better are fucking delusional, and most of them are just stuck with outdated hardware that can barely run the PS4 era DX11 games.

UE5 is a shit tier engine created to cater to the lowest common denominator of software developer, with a shit ton of performance-sucking abstractions active at runtime to simplify and streamline the devtime experience. Basically, it's the poster-child of cost-cutting.
