Have you ever moderated a video game?
I have been the moderator of a couple CS2D and Minecraft servers. Also the founder of a certain super niche game that had a /v/ server with 100+ active daily players

>choose mid instead of supermodel stacy

I used to moderate an imageboard (not this one).

They think it's easily obtainable for them. Like dudes who simp for fat chicks.
It's like when you workout and start to think it's okay for you to jerk off to cuter vidya/anime girls.

The most I do is host and manage servers for my friend group, since they are incredibly retarded. I'm into homelabbing, so it's kinda fun, anyway.

No, but I "moderated" your mom. You can thank me for your new little brother later, chud. Raise him right for me!

No. Why would I want to do it? Seems like a fucking chore.

>Think of myself as a very reasonable person (Yeah I know most people would think that)
>Get friendly with admins/owners of Discord channels, IRCs, indie games that I like.
>Usually get very knowledgeable about the game and its people when I get into them.
>Lots of players come to me asking for advice/tips on the game or in general because I'm trusted within the community
>Admin/owner then starts talking about wanting a moderator or something along those lines for their Discord Channel/Game
>Volunteer myself and often get suggested by other players
>Never ever get selected, instead the admin picks the person who has clearly been sucking their dick behind the scenes the whole time and knows nothing about the game or their people
>People complain about the owner's choice because they know it's bad
>Owner always doubles down because they don't want to admit they chose someone purely because of dick sucking
>Inevitably watch as the community gets torn down over time as the person starts banning people they don't like, deleting everything at random, blatantly abusing their mod powers, etc.
>Admin/owner never fixes the problem because then they'd have to admit they were wrong
>Eventually the Discord channel dies or in one case the game's servers shut down

I've seen this happen so many times it just saddens me.

I'm actually running a V Rising server for my friends right at the moment, but I wouldn't really count that. I usually run a server for whatever survivalcraft slop we are all currently playing together.

That's sadly how most of Social Media platforms are overall. This was a thing even on Forum Sites as far back as 20 years ago . People for some reason love to power trip and have control over everything rather than what is right by the community itself. It's people who are insecure about petty things and care about popularity and validation. Autists like us do not get it, but somehow they fall for it. Just find a server with Autists and discuss views there.

When I got my very first job I stupidly spent money on one of those DarkRP VIP packages where you got to be an admin. And I did it just so I could grief and do shit like pick up cars with my physgun and clip through the bank walls to steal money. Must have been at least 14 or so years by now.

>call them out for it
>immediately get 3 or 4 other users ganging up on me like I committed a cardinal sin
Forums can be good, but man whoever came up with tying your post count to your account must have been insanely insecure. At least it taught me a valuable lesson in my younger years.

Ultrastacies actually get less hardcore orbiters than you'd think because most mid men think they have zero chance in hell anyway.

I was a mod on a minecraft server once. Admin modded me instead of the guy he actually meant to mod. Needless to say, I griefed some spawns and they had to reroll the server back several days.

I mean hey, that's why my first line lampshades that. I don't blame you for not trusting some random poster on /v/.
That said, clearly the owners made the wrong choice in the end, so either way my complaint makes sense.

Kinda

I used to have a Habbo Hotel room, high school rp, that got a lot of players for a week or two, and myself from 15 years ago was on a massive ego trip. I would kick people if they were talking over me, girl characters I was rizzing would be made a "teacher" etc.

Moderating anything is cancer and the people who knowlingly seek it out are also cancer.
Especially for games where they give people some sort of discord mentor role that's really just a I need to always be right retard.
I decline that shit everytime it's offered to me because I don't want retards spamming with retarded questions.

That's the irony of the situation though. The people who are likely the best moderators are the people refusing the job.

The thing is that once you see your 100th community get destroyed because of a shitty moderator, then if you have any sympathy you might have the urge to apply to be a moderator. That's where I am now. I used to be a big "I'll never be a moderator" type person but now I just don't want to see another community/game I like go up in flames.

It's a dual edged problem because all the info for games got put into some niche discord servers to try to gain members. So you just get retards that don't know how to use the search function thinking it's a 24/7 helpdesk.
