Lawyers are fucking psychopaths, if you didnโ€™t know. It takes a special kind of fucked up to be a prosecutor, know the defendant is likely innocent, and still try to get them locked up by every means at your disposal. Similarly for defense attorneys, it takes a special kind of sick piece of shit to have a job where your goal is to literally let criminal niggers stay out of jail

Of course he can because both cases CAN happen and 99% of lawyers handle them the same.

Very few, if any lawyer only takes cases they truly believe to be righteous, a prosecutor will eventually find a case where he knows the guy is innocent but they want to throw them in jail and defence will eventually take a clear horrible guilty human being to defend.

To be able to live with yourself while doing something like this at least once a year if not more takes a special kind of demon.

My guess is it's a combination of:

"Who the fuck do we make the main character?" - Internally it'll be broken between Phoenix, Athena, Apollo or someone completely new and they'll never come to an agreement. Personally, I think Mia has a 3 year gap she could fill in with prequels. Make her rather abrupt death mean more and give Red White some history with her. I don't think they'll keep the fanbase fully happy with any decision.

The other is probably "how do we justify it as a full priced release"? - The old format always worked for the flow of story, but people tend to forgive that because the writing's good and entertaining. The "they're barely even games" criticism does have some merit. As technology advances, so do expectations, and just having the normal visual novel with a gimmick might not be enough anymore.

I think we will get it one day, and it'll probably be a reboot starring Phoenix or a new Attorney, and won't link to the old ones.

Personally I'd rather they just ditch the individual games, build a new game with a stellar new-genengine and just release it as "Ace Attorney", No lawyer prior, just the name of the franchise.

Maybe give it a ground-up re-make of the og triligy that spruces up the investigations and court as a sort of proof of concept and base game, then just release new DLC cases that follow different narratives and characters, or some could continue Phoenix's and do the sequel games.

I know DLC kind of pisses people off, but it would let them make cases at a pace to make them actually good, 1-5 quality ones, and all the different divisions on the team could all work on their own thing without fully investing into a new game. They don't really need to keep making sequels, as the engine is basically the same anyway, just make new cases and plotlines.

I'm not sure if people would play a female-lead game. Girls/Women do play the franchise but it's out of an attraction to the male characters, and guys rarely want to play as a woman.

The only exception to this MIGHT be Mia, since considering her large role in the trilogy as a ghost she kind of had a very abrupt whimper of a death right at the beginning, and her cases in T&T did give enough potential that a prequel trilogy could work with her.

Courts are heavily geared in favor of the prosecution in Japan, which can lead to them being very successful, and sometimes competitive when it comes to things like win streaks and whatnot.

This isn't really because there is anything wrong with it, generally Japan has an impeccable police force, and a much lower crime rate so they can put more time into their work. They are very thorough with investigations. Generally if someone goes to court, they are proven guilty anyway by that point.

Ace Attorney addresses the elephant in the room with that though, that if an innocent man DOES get to court, it's basically over for them, and the defense will need to fight tooth and nail to get them off the hook. The games make the police incompetent though which isn't really a thing in Japan but helps its narrative.
A lot of prosecutors will do the same, and be somewhat corrupt, due to their inflated egos and will still try to get them found guilty even if they know they're innocent.
Anonymous No.718058367

That's not my point. The system is so stacked in favor of the prosecution that you can have 40 cases and not lose a single one easily. Edgeworth having a few dozen to his name doesn't really mean much when they logially should all have completely or nearly perfect records.

Can we all agree that Adrian is handily the best regular witness character in the trilogy? Most of the other witnesses are very one dimensional. They show up, show off some silly gimmick, commit a bunch of perjury, and then exit the story exactly the same as they came in. They feel like caricatures. Adrian has a depth that no one else outside of the main cast has. She feels she could be an actual person.

Seeing her genuinely smile for the first time at the end of 2-4 was the most cathartic thing in the game for me, which is saying a lot considering how much of a roller coaster the rest of the ending is. Seeing her doing better in the next game is really sweet as well. It lets you feel the difference Phoenix is making in the world.

They even bring up the shitload of corruption inherent to the system, every prosecutor besides edgeworth and whip lady are only trying to win via underhanded means, because it is a scandal on the justice system to put someone on trial who didn't do it, according to japanese standards. Japan thinks bullying people into suicide is a good thing. That's why they never attempt to solve their child suicide rates.

To be fair, the quality of the localization varies from game to game in the AA series.
AA1, Apollo Justice, and the Layton vs Wright game probably have the best localizations (because they werenโ€™t done by Capcom lol).
Justice for All and Investigations 1 have the worst ones.

Yeah 1 and AJ had Alex O Smith working on them. You can feel his loss in Trials when Phoenix starts schizophrenically referencing The Matrix Revolution during a critical story moment at the end of the game when a still of a major npc about to be stabbed and murdered is on-screen
