This game becomes the best 3d mario game when you use the analog stick mod (which also allows you to use your right stick as a modern camera) and a cheat that lets you swap characters on the fly. Swapping on the fly doesnt break anything somehow and lets you chain character swaps for really helpful movement combos that open up insane new oppurtunities. Also super mario 64 ds is mario 64 with better graphics, new stages, heavily improved stages w new missions and features like the map. Even the camera is the best official mario 64 camera to date.

Mario Galaxy is better than Mario 64. I don't have the energy to argue with Mario autists but I know it deep down.

True actually. The level design in 64 is disgusting. There are very few worthwhile stages, most of it is abysmal. Especielly once you get through the basement.

Or you can be smart and build the PC port instead.

Too be fair, it's 30 years old and one of the first 3d platformers.

It's glazed in the modern age for being practixally flawless is the thing. It is important historically but it really doesnt deserve the gloating, its extremely flawed due to it being the first. Impressivley not the worst 3d platform of the era though and it took a while for improvements in the genre

The analog stick mod barely fixes enough. The controls are still wore than SM64 even with it.

Galaxy doesn't really improve on 64 at all though, in fact it scales back on things that made 64 fun and tries something else entirely in other areas

Hot take but kinda true. Everyone jerks off to 64 like it’s this untouchable masterpiece but half the levels past Whomp’s Fortress feel like prototype stages. Shifting Sand Land straight up sucks, and don’t even get me started on Dire Dire Boring. Galaxy at least feels polished top to bottom, even if it's more linear. 64 has charm and impact, yeah, but pretending like it’s flawless is pure cope.

Like what? Not being able to run around in a proper circle? Like glitching when standing on the edges of platforms?

I don't know, are these the things that made Mario 64 fun to you? You should be able to answer that question yourself on if that's what I'm talking about

Oot gets the same treatment, I think it's a millenial thing.
Lots of game journos and other commentators grew up with an N64, so everything from it is the greatest thing since sliced bread despite being a lackluster system in hindsight.

It's possible but I think it's more so a matter of good taste. I grew up with the Gamecube but I can't fathom thinking the 2 zelda's on that console being better than OoT with how many flaws they have and how little they actually improve on
