It was a fake distraction pic before the previous BlizzCon, but maybe? Unlikely, though, they learned the hard way that players are getting tired of too much of the same environment. One of the Vtubers hinted at war within, and they had to shut him up. I expect the next big patch/expansion to be bright and colorful. (They still have the furry elves storyline and the blingtron war if they want to return to the deeps.)

The fun in MMO gameplay is character interactions, and both the wpvp and economy is braindead, while PvE is borderline robotic. Nah when classic first came out I came back for like a month and it was just like the old days. Instantly made like 50 friends that I talked to and grouped with all the time, the world felt really big and imposing, people were killing each other in neutral zones just for fun, the auction house was healthy and fun to dick around with, people had all sorts of get rich quick schemes, cities and general chat were lively... I want classic but not just a carbon copy of it, a continuation of it. If blizzard isn't going to make a real MMO then I just won't play their garbage, haven't touched retail since 2014 and feel no urges whatsoever to return. Even OSRS is better than wow in its current state and I don't even play that any more.

FFXI is also overwhelmingly world content where having utility matters more than minmaxing dps

When I was a kid I really loved the "unexplored other side of Azeroth" as a potential plot-hook for new content, zones, etc. When I got older I figured, with phasing, that they could actually just update whatever zone or area they wanted to in whatever chronological order they wanted. Literally, just have players return to previous zones because some important local plot-content point was finally happening. Especially considering with how many large plots they've "finished" they should really be focusing on more grounded, character-driven, local stuff.

As an adult however I realize now that I actually don't think anyone at Blizzard is smart or talented enough to do anything with anything and they're just a bunch of hopeless fuck ups. They can't write people stories, they can't write lore, they can't do fucking anything.

I was watching my old guild do raid splits to replace the gear they spent 6 months gathering. Then they got reminded to do their M+ homework before next raid. No idea how anyone plays this shit anymore. It used to feel like a job, but now it's LITERALLY a job. Grinding multiple currencies, crafting orders for materials to craft gear. Jesus fucking christ, I want to kms just thinking about playing modern WoW at a cutting edge level. I remember 5.0 Pandaria raids were ok, not great, not terrible. Locations and storylines were pretty good, though. I prefer the Throne of Thunder and Siege of Orgrimmar patches, though. If SoO lasted only for 5-6 months instead of 1 year+, it would have been remembered differently.

The Cataclysm talent tree system was way better than whatever dogshit they added in DF. Talent points are important to feel like you are progressing your character forward (important for new players). They also provide variety in gameplay, offering tradeoffs with different benefits, which makes experienced players feel smart about themselves. They also serve as an instrument to balance classes in different situations, simultaneously providing a class fantasy for players who are into that.

I haven't played much modern wow, but I did a little bit in dragonlands. This was something that really bugged me, you could do good AOE, or good ST, but if you picked one you sucked at the other. Felt really shit.
