Pass. It was my favorite game of all time, loved wotl, and this doesn't even have wotl content for some reason. And they apparently made the script "shonen" and fully voiced by sag aftra homochomos? Its like they don't want the original fans to buy it.

They were doing a remake of they game they themselves made.

It does look like they redid a number of the animated scenes that were originally in WotL for this, though (and actually made sure they have the correct outfit on for what chapter they take place in this time)

There are tools that let you just rip assets from PS1 games, the source code has nothing to do with the sprites or textures. FFT in particular has an incredibly active modding community that has been ripping and modifying the sprites for ages. They literally just slapped a lazy AI upscaling filter on the pixel art and called it a remake. It's pathetic. What is the value proposition?

When Square re-does pixel art it looks like the Pixel Remasters, which are hand-done and touched up to look good on modern LCDs. The blurred and smeared look of these "remake" is characteristic of many of the filtering options that come standard with most emulators. The fact that you can't see any hard edges on the sprites makes this obvious.

This was outsourced to Dotemu, a French shovelware dev. The Pixel Remasters were done by Tose, a Japanese dev with a much better track record. Also, prior to these, Square released PSP remakes of the old FFs that were renowned for their pixel art. A bad remake by a shitty French dev doesn't invalidate what it looks like when Square actually cares about remaking pixel art.

I am a real fan. That's why I played it in '97. This version is stated by the developers to be identical to the version from '97 with zero gameplay, story, content, or mechanical changes. Thus, everyone who has played the original on PSX has already played this version.

A REAL fan would have played War of the Lions, the de facto best version (even after this one releases).

Anon, for the New version of the game, it was completely rewritten by Matsuno to better reflect spoken dialogue, and the translation is based on that new dialogue.
You need to look over the information that has actually been put out.

Nothing from WotL was used in this version for the Japanese version.
Only the translation that was used overseas is used for the Classic version's translation.

Without WotL content it seems a waste. This is just like how The "pixel remasters" didnt' include all the content of any of the other versions which again seemed a waste for all the pricing required.

Okay fine, then the original creators should have included pretty much all of the QoL and went over all of the WotL stuff and upgraded/revamped it so it would not only be all of what came before, but something new - likely something they were interested in doing but wasn't possible at the time FFT was released. More story options, changing/branching paths, secrets.
