It doesn't work on 7. The exact same thing happened that I warned all the smug 7 luddites about when they said "I'll just not update the client lol". Well, Valve updated something server-side and now your outdated client is dead weight.
If you don't want to upgrade to 10/11 and haven't ditched 7 in favor of Linux by now - you're a certified retard. You're doing more workarounds to get shit working on your system right now than Linux users had to do in 2010 in order to run windows software under Wine.

There will be ways to keep using W10 even if it doesn't have official support, who cares
I upgraded my PC somewhat recently, well a bit less than a year ago and I decided to try W11. There was serious stuttering issues in some games to the point where they froze and had to turn off the pc, and I was sitting here testing all the components and seeing which one was faulty, then it hit me, it wasn't my shit's fault, but rather W11 was fucked.
Months later I saw that the W11 build I was broken. Surely it will be fixed now, but I'm still angry

Oh they're fine now, but every so often they do fix a problem with a particular game. And then of course certain new games require a certain driver level. Case in point, BF6 beta required me to be on the current Nvidia drivers.

I don't particularly care of the drivers go out of date myself, but if it prevents me from playing certain games, that's a problem.

Nah, in the late 2000s and early 2010s more and more games/studios/publishers were pushing for their own account systems, one-time codes, clients, limited installs, etc., it wasn't all on Steam. It would have eventually settled on a more unified and convenient system, but even now Steam is one of the only passable versions of that.

Half of W11 "Requirements" are fake anyway. On IoT LTSC 2024, TPM / Secure boot / UEFI / 4GB RAM are not required
You can also remove those requirements from a regular W11 ISO by making your USB installer with Rufus and checking the option that removes them

Yeah, but those are designed for a fraction of the hardware. You use IoT for embedded situations and POS machines, so requiring a TPM and Secure Boot is silly, considering the way they're usually deployed. IoT also gets feature freezes. I don't know where 11 is frozen, but 10 lacked DirectStorage support and the updated CPU scheduler.

If you're only talking about the basic Task Manager, then you are correct.
Otherwise, you're not correct at all.
Learn Sysinternals. I haven't relied on Windows Defender ever since I started using that. This shit lists literally anything that isn't hidden by the lowest possible ring.
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/
Even if you're talking about a rootkit that manages to hijack processer before the OS can even see them, the toolkit above also has a rootkit detector that supposedly seeks for disk usage discrepancies between the hardware and the OS. Granted I never tried that tool, but the logic is sound.

It's so convenient sometimes that I'd rather pirate than buy on steam simply because it's easier.

"the basic skills of checking running processes" is not an accurate term for sysinternals, which is not something that is a part of windows in the first place.

in addition to the very basic option to not list the process in the task manager, available to any process, there is a veritable arsenal of tricks you can use to prevent anyone that isn't running some sort of, statistical system behavior fingerprinting, from noticing your process.
including, for example, modifying sysinternals so that it does not show it.

you are simply confirming your own bias.

The bulk of game sales are going to people that don't know how to pirate games. People who absolutely want to pirate games always will unless it's impossible (online games or Denuvo). Casual pirates are a smaller segment of the market, Steam may sway them depending on how faggoty piracy gets at that particular time.
