Anyone know about parse culture in wow?
It's where you record combat logs and upload them to a third party site.

The site has a sim where it gives you points based on how well you do.
Here's the catch:

There are numerous consumables to use to improve your parse. It can easily cost up to 300 gold a week for just ONE raid.

Gathering these items yourself can lose you up to 5 hours a week.

The funniest thing is, blue to purple parses are considered bad. While the raids can be cleared with green ones (lowest rating)

Parsing is their way of trying to add difficulty to an easy by design genre. MMOs thrive on the number of people playing, and there's often very little room for skill expression because that's not a profitable way to design a game.

Instead, they milk every possible buff and composition to get damage that's never going to happen outside of extremely specific setups in which everyone is going for max damage, then use that as a bragging right despite the fact that drooling retards are able to clear the same content.

It's nonsensical and isn't even a proper metric for judging someone's gameplay. It's so insanely easy to pick apart, but once someone's stopped seeing it as a game, but a parsing simulator, there's no convincing them otherwise, and no going back.

It takes the game from having intrinsic value, to extrinsic, and you can't put that back.

I find parsing fun. I aim for 99s/median 90+, if I parse purple/80ish I played bad or could improve a lot on the fight.

in my experience only dogshit players hate logs as people can look them up and see grey/green/blue numbers.

OP what's worse is that in order to get things like the highest DPS on the meters you often have to act selfish. Now keep in mind this is supposed to be a team effort but if you want to be mr big dick with the highest DPS you might have to do stupid shit like act in ways that forces the healer to put more effort on keeping your ass alive because instead of keeping your own ass out of danger you're too focused on putting out as much damage as you can.

We're talking about stuff like not moving out of some fire because you have to DPS the boss some more. Then when they die they are like "FUCKING HEALER NOT HEALING ME".

you can even use the thing between your nose and chin to communicate with the raid and tell them what you are attempting to do and maybe the raid leader can try to facilitate that

WoW classic is unbelievably easy if you have rudimentary teamwork and coordination. Needing to "parse" is ridiculous look-at-me desperation for attention and fake acclaim in video game land. I didn't even have a weapon enchant until I got the rank 14 staff and someone offered to enchant it for free. It didn't fucking matter.

Parsing is the WoW equivalent to the /mlp/ containment server.

Look at any RuneScape boss hiscore and you'll see players going for 60,000 kills, 100,000 kills, etc.

It's worse than that, it discourages people from doing tasks. For example, say a fight requires someone to go press a button.
This is perfectly good design. Were it not for parses, people would LOVE to be the button guy, it's an easy way to feel important by doing a crucial task.
But because of muh parsies, people will bitch and moan and try to weasel their way out of the responsibility, because going to press the button ruins your DPS even if it saves the entire raid.
Somehow we've circled back to "nooooo but i WANT to just repeat the same rotation and do the exact same fucking thing every fight and every boss >_<"

Parsing is retarded and they do it for retarded reasons, but the majority of WoW players are some of the dumbest people I've ever met.

The most difficult thing about any content released in the game has always been grouping just enough players that aren't completely retarded.
Most content isn't even cleared/seen by the majority of players until it's been nerfed/outscaled to the point where most of them can just stand there and routinely fuck up their rotations.
Every competent player goes through the same phases dealing with these retards:
