Oh boy! A cool pirate game!
>You have to get through the sloppiest intro with a nonsensical plot where the pirate kills a Templar and takes his robes and suddenly knows everything about where to pick up assassination contracts and is randomly discovered and is thrown in prison but it's ok but he just removes his shackles easily and you have to do loads of eavesdropping and running around on land and can't even get onto your boat for ages
>Then you have to go into a first person mode in a modern ubisoft building in Canada where they're making videogames for some reason
Fuck I hate this game so much

Sailing was the most blatant padding, too

I liked the intro.
But yeah the forced "it's a simulation" part of it was always holding this franchise back
But is that really all it takes for you to hate something? the rest of it is still fun....

beat it twice, still have no idea what the fuck is story about

I was paid on commission to review Ubisoft's games in private for them. For this game I went through the intro and some other shit and I wrote a review telling them basically it was dogshit and I hate modern games and openworld shit.
They surprisingly contacted me again after that for more reviews, so that earned a little bit of respect that they just accepted negative criticism and didn't blackball me or something. Would still never play any of their games though.

If you buy this on PS5, they still have a "Rate this mission out of 5 stars" for every mission. I wonder if they still receive those.

Can confirm, the intro filtered 15-year-old me. Maybe I’ll revisit it someday, but after replaying AC3, I’ve pretty much lost all interest in the franchise.

I think it’s lame precisely because it’s too much of a departure from the early ACs. The pirate stuff is decent, but it’s a bad AC game.

AC was supposed to end with AC3, there was old concept art showing Desmond with full assassin gear leading him to become a top tier assassin and a leader of the assassins through the skills he learned from the bleeding effect, essentially the series would've ended with modern day assassins
but since ubislop wanted to milk the series for profit, they just killed off desmond and we got whatever the fuck everything was after AC 3
