But the gnomes are simultaneously good natured as well as dastardly. They want the best for the world but don’t care much for it either. It’s a big conundrum. They’re creators of great gifts to the other races, but those gifts tend to have ulterior motives or grave consequences. They’ll make your town thrive—so long as it has something to offer. They’ll try their damn hardest to beat death itself not realizing the implications or whose hands they’re playing into. There are bad gnomes and good gnomes, bad Jews and good Jews. Some Jews/Gnomes, like Einstein, or Hughes, just wanted to pursue physics for the sake of it. They were gentle creatures otherwise.

This game was the brainchild of a baseball superstar that got hooked on world of warcraft after he dropped out of the league and decided to invest virtually all of his fortune earned through baseball into bankrolling the ultimate mmo. Being someone with zero experience in producing games or managing the finances of a studio, he naturally burned through all his money very early on and had almost nothing to show for it, save a bit of a tech demo showing off some cool fantasy city. When the money started drying up, he used his connections and celebrity status as a baseball star to get Rhode Island to subsidize the games development. After burning through a ton of their money, Rhode Island said that they need to scale the game way back so that it can actually release one day. This was around the time that R. A Salvatore and Todd Macfarlane came in to pen the script and design some monsters, respectively; so that the game would have some semblance of known talent attached to it, other than the baseball player that created the original premise and almost destroyed the entire project many times over through bad spending choices. The fact that the game released and is actually pretty decent is sort of a miracle.

What’s funny is that giant talking tree says humans are just as unchanging as the fae, in their own way. The fae stick to what they do good at, but struggle when it’s threatened, because they can’t really diverge. Mortals are constantly changing, constantly diverting, but struggle to retain what is good, and this is itself an unchanging pain destined to repeat. It’s own chaotic cycle. Empires rise and fall, etc. The fae retain their glory but struggle to change when their glory is threatened. They cannot truly adapt.
