I tried getting into Empyrion like 4 times. And yes, I like engineering and building games.
Every time I just quit after 10-20 hours. It's just so incredibly boring and bland.

Empyrion is objectively broken. I played one of the very early versions on a potato and it was fine. Around alpha 8 or 9 those assburger germs completely destroyed performance. Last year I thought I'd give it a try again and it almost ended up burning my GPU while stuttering all the time.

I came from Rinworld and only started DF like a month ago. It's pretty cool. The hardest part of the game is finding the coop stories. Like actual management is pretty simple to get a hold of but finding the goblin kidnapper who took a kid and letting that kids mom beath him to death in a jail cell as revenge takes real effort.

They added a GUI and all it did was reveal that there was no depth to it.
All the perceived depth was due to a relatively simple game having an awful control scheme that took 10,000 hours to learn.
And most of the people who learned it had been playing from the beginning where it was originally pretty simple, so they adapted along with the game.
DF players didn't even realize.

For me it's the other way around. I started with 5-6 years of DF, even played a bunch of mods, I was pretty seriously into it. But I've always hated that I had almost no control of combat.
Since Rimworld came out I just can't go back. If they come up with a DFhack script that lets you hold position or directly move your dorfs, I might play it again because I liked its fantasy style.

I don't know about the current version, but many years ago there used to be a catalog of blueprints for vehicles and bases, which you were encouraged to use before you figure out enough mechanics to build balanced vehicles. Spaceship building always followed bullshit rules. I remember making a flying pyramid that somehow worked just fine.

Yeah, that's what HV Frame was. It's a prefab, except you have to manually place everything but the frame. Then the game tells you "put the generator at position 3" and you just have to figure out what it means by that.
