MGRR sold less than MGS1, MGS2, MGS3, MGS4, and especially MGS5.

It literally sold less than every single mainline game.

In my experience whenever people talk about MGS they think of either MGS2 or MGS5 (the game that ACTUALLY did damage to the franchise). And this is awful because they should be thinking of MGS3.

This one can be justified. It was all the work of one genius scientist who died prior to the events of the Phantom Pain

The timeline goes like this

>later in 1974 big boss destroys the AI weapons including peace walker and strangelove leaves to join msf for a shortwhile
>after leaving msf, strangelove ends up working for cipher and spends the next decade working on another AI system that would later become the patriots

It is a functional replica of a human consciousness. The Patriot AI does not learn, it only follows its predefined protocols and determines the most optimal solution to a given problem as per that protocol.

Strangelove may be a singular genius in her field but she's not the ONLY person working on her projects. Her research materials passed through many hands, the results of which were witnessed and recorded.
Like you say, the work she begins on the Patriot AI is continued by others. Science does not rely on magical Chosen Ones to progress, it's an endless collaboration between many people experimenting and iterating on what's been found by others. So where did the Mammal Pod tech go?
This kind of thing doesn't get covered up by "well she died in a prequel so that's why it doesn't hurt continuity :^)"

All that aside, there are also things like the far-future (for the time) tech that's keeping shit like the Chrysalis in the air.
They double-down on this in MGSV with shit like the iDroid projecting damn holograms and the ability to develop a wormhole generator.

While PW's machines look imposing, in truth I think the likely reason why they stopped showing up later is because they were too impractical. Across many fields of technology, hardware tends to become smaller, more sleeker. The bulky robots in Peace Walker were unwieldy and likely expensive to maintain, not to mention they would easily be discovered by modern detection systems and were defeated by basic bitch anti tank weapons.

I'm not too bothered by it. No matter what shitty developers will always get the wrong idea when chasing trends, because no matter what they'll always have a very surface level way of seeing things.

The game was okay it never really felt like it was 100 percent finished or complete i played it once and it was okay. I always felt like it should have had a handful of extra levels or just an outright more polished sequel.


I also feel like the aesthetic of the game was kind of weird, a lot of the main characters loook good but the enemies and levels and environments lacked something about them which made them not feel like metal gear solid environments like from the older games. I think it would have been a lot cooler if the game had more of a MGS1/2 art aesthetic for the levels. Too many generic looking wide open areas you don’t remember anything about. I also think the look raiden had in this game, while cool, would have been better for some kind of mid or late game upgrade or even saved for a sequel. his look in MGS4 felt a lot more authentic to the MGS universe and I would have preferred he have an art direction more like that. But nonetheless the MGR raiden design is still good. essentially I just felt like the game from an aesthetic level was missing a lot of what made the older MGS games stand out, they had really fucking good designs with their own sort of identity that was recognizable and a lot of the stuff from this game struck me as generic and more like deus ex Xbox 360 universe story
