Ness is a Paladin archetype. He's a heavy hitting frontline healer that uses non-elemental (holy) spells to pacify (banish) his foes. Paula is the backline mage.

I find this neat, since he doesn't evoke the image of the typical Paladin/Cleric at all. But that's certainly what he is.

Earthbound had a pretty vocal fanbase back in the 2000s, but after Undertale came out most of the more obnoxious elements of the fanbase died down. If anything the only real issue with Earthbound's "fanbase" is it's a popular game for people to pretend to have played purely for clout.
